If I'm connected to a VPN, do I have to open any ports on my router to be able to use the softphone? I'm getting a 408 - Request Timed Out error whenever I attempt to connect.

No ports should need to be opened, does the softphone work locally?

i would get it working localy then go to remote. what ip address are you using? the on lan address or the external address. since your doing vpn it sould be the lan address and no nat.

Sorry for the delayed response after I asked for your help. I was creating an IP Softphone instead of a SIP phone, which was why it wasn't working. I'm up and running now, thanks!
