Title: Displaying calling or called party name for trunk calls
Post by: petr.necas on July 06, 2013, 11:00:20 AM
Our customer would like to see caller's name rather than the phone number for incoming and outgoing calls. They want to add few external numbers into the telephone directory and every time the number that is present in the telephone directory is dialed they want to see the name. Similarly when somebody is calling in that is present in the telephone directory they would like to see the caller's name too.

Any ideas?

This has been added in MCD6 for outgoing calls.

Alpha tagging is extended to associate the name string with dialed digits for outgoing calls.
Not sure about incoming, I know in Australia we don't get name on incoming calls provided by the carrier, we use Alpha Tagging and the Telephone Directory in the 3300.
From what I read on forums it sounds like other countries are provided with names as well, could be wrong though.

Anyone feel free to elaborate on their country.

Some extra info.

It's not customary yet, but in the Netherlands to give an example Vodafone supplies the name on calls if both parties utilize a SIP trunk from Vodafone. Depending on how you configure your SIP trunk you can show your personal name/number or a general number/general Company name.

In North America you as long as the PRI is setup to deliver it and you have the right class of service options then you see the name of the calling party and their number.

If Alpha Tagging was supported in version ICP 7, what is the big deal announcing the Alpha Tagging support in MCD version 6.0?

Has anybody tested if Alpha Tagging works with SIP trunks for outgoing and incoming calls? SIP trunk is not listed:

ICP 7 had inbound tagging , they added outbound tagging in MCD 6

Alpha Tagging works on SIP trunks (of course that is only one provider)  here; MCD 4.2 incoming (can't test outgoing of course).
