Title: Update Mitel 5000 software version

We have a customer who has a 5.1.0.20 system. At any rate I am having a wierd problem:

When I set the call routing to go to a CRA, then have an option ring a hunt group (with an extension list in it to set the phone to ring), it recalls as per the settings just fine UNTIL I add a SIP 5610 phone into the group. At that point it never recalls. However, if the incoming trunk groups rings the hunt group directly, it recalls just fine with the SIP 5610 in place.

I was told by the tech who installed this system (who has since retired) that this is a problem with the firmware version and that it should be updated. First of all, has anyone else experienced this?

Secondly, are there any documents where the procedure for upgrading the system software is listed (email me the link would be just fine as I have searched the Mitel website and am having a hard time finding it).

The update procedure is in the system manuals, if you download the manual set from eDocs it's in there.

Basically you have two options with 5.0+:

USB Stick update: copy the software to the root of a USB thumb drive an update via AWS web page or front panel

TFTP Update: Install the software on your PC, install a TFTP server on your PC and set the upgrade software as the TFTP root directory, disable Windows/AV Firewall, and upgrade via AWS web page

Remember if you move out of your current version stream you will need a new license key from AMC.

Since it's 5.1.0.20 and I would be bringing it to 5.1.46 would that require an update key?

No, staying within the same "stream" doesn't require an updated key... 5.1 to any 5.1 is the same steam, if you went from 5.0 to 5.1 or 4.0 to 5.0 that would require a new key.

Even though upgrading to a different release (from 5.0 to 5.1) will require a new license key it is free if you have AMC access...go to the AMC record for that system and choose update and download the updated key to the system.

If you don't have access to AMC, make sure someone does for if you do a major release update, the system will post an invalid license until it is applied. Also make sure you download the latest DB patch to get access to the system.

You will also want to make sure you have gone into Saba and taken the free update course to make your Mitel TS login current to the release if you need ts help.

Yes, that is a requirement to get a different version key.

Yes I thought that was the case as with the 3300. I have never been through a software level change as we started with 5.1 SP3 in Australia.
The most I have done is from SP3 to SP4  :)
Waiting for Rel 6.0 which is hopefully not too far away

The reason I am looking into an update is because the customer has two SIP cordless phones (5610).

I only certified on the 5000 this past September and am admittedly very new to it, but this system kind of got dropped onto my lap.

To break it down for you, here is the way the system is configured:

Trunks-->CO trunk groups-->rings hunt group 2003--->PP003 has two 5530 and one 5610 phone-->recalls to CRA 2503

So far that works just fine. However when a caller presses 2 (which sends them back to 2003), the calls just ring (never recalling like they are supposed to).

I have another system (5.1.0.46) which was my first install and it works perfectly with the 5610 phone they have, hence my reasons for looking into updating this customer from 5.1.0.20.

What would SWA have to do with it (can you not update it without it?)

Without a current SWA you can't upgrade to a new license file...that's the gotcha...you CAN upgrade but not update and you will have a basically dead system...

If you go into the AMC record for this customer, you can see if it is current or expired...

I was afraid of that. I am sure it is expired (because when I called tech support on this the recording said so).

But remember as acejavelin said, if you are just going to a new patch on the 5.1 platform, you don't need to mess with the licenses anyway...but you can't go to 6.0 without SWA

Sorry to ignite this post again - Ive just upgraded to v6.0 and I have a valid SWA. However I'm not sure where to download the DB Programming software for v6.0. Any help appreciated. Thanks

lol... generally people with eBiz accounts on Mitel don't ask questions like this, my guess is he is an end user looking for software.

kwahodi, first try your vendor, if you purchased the system through them they should provide the software AND system password to you at no or a minimal charge. If not, or you have another unusual situation, PM me, as the software is not available to the general public, but in the famous words of Obi Wan Kenobi, "There are alternatives to fighting".  ;D
