Hello,
I am troubleshooting an issue with Mitel voice mail messages not being forwarded to email, and I am trying to narrow it down to see if it is an issue with the voicemail server or the mail server.
At this point, it doesn't seem to me that the Mitel is sending those voicemail messages to the mail server. I checked all the settings many times. How can I determine if those voicemails are being sent? What can I look for in the logs. I am not seeing anything in the logs to either confirm or deny.
Thanks,
-
This is from my notes:
How to check 3300 Embedded VM Logs
Using a FTP Client
Go to /vmail/c/voxdrv and download the file diag.dat
This is a text file that can be read using Wordpad.

Thanks Ralph!
So just to be clear, you browse to the IP address of the Mitel and then navigate to that directory?
-
You use an FTP Client, like Filezilla, and browse to the IP address of the Mitel... That path is hidden and not normally seen and you have to type it in manually. The user credentials to login are the same as for ESM (system and <system password>).
-
Is there a list of the hidden paths anywhere?
-
Not that I am aware of, but once you open the "root" of the path then all the directories become visible... For example, once you open "/vmail" all the directories underneath are seen.
I have never tried standard Linux commands, like "ls -alF" or similar to see all directories, I generally think messing in the system is asking for trouble.

Thanks for all the help. So I was able to retrieve the logs with FileZilla. I tried searching for evidence to see whether the voicemail server attempted to contact the mail server. I used the following search terms: "email", "smtp", "(my email alias)", "(full email address"), "(IP of email server)", as well as many other terms, but no luck.
Unless I am missing something here, it doesn't look like the voicemail server is sending those voicemail messages to the SMTP server.

If I remember correctly, it seems to me the system didn't generate any SMTP logs unless it failed.
When it fails it shows up in the software logs.

Hi Ralph,
is it save to change the delete VMs after forward it to email set to Yes?
-
I wouldn't change the email settings to delete the VM's until after your sure it delivers to email ok.
Once you know for sure VM to email is working ok then there shouldn't be a problem.
Just remember, if something changes and email delivery stops, new messages will still be deleted even though it didn't deliver to email.

Does the log show email attempt? From what I recall, it doesn't but I could be wrong 8)
-
The software logs will show delivery failures.
I don't know about the VM logs.

Thanks what I believe is the case. I think I told the OP to set up an sme to transport the mail. His first thing to try would be to setup a local account on the sme and make sure it makes it that far and the move on.

Would not a wireshark capture show the 3300 attempting to forward the message if it was doing so?
