Title: Unassociated Mailboxes, useful or useless? (Mitel 5000)

Unassociated Mailboxes, useful or useless?

I've got users who move desks very often, and a sales team that share phones...so associated mailboxes don't work so good.

So, I set up unassociated mailboxes so they can play musical desks and still get voicemail with a constant number for staff to remember...BUT its more of a pain, as you can not directly transfer a call to an unassociated mailbox.

First you have to type 2500 each time, then the mailbox number.

I'm trying to use it with the Unified Communicator Express and it does not work either, as it will only transfer via associated mailboxes.

Advice???

Hi,

I have a customer with similar setup (a school were every teacher have a mailbox, but no phone). We created phantoms extensions for each user + associated mailbox. This phantom extension has an immediate forwarding path to the voicemail. You'll be able to transfer call by using this extension.

For people who move from phone to phone, try to create hot desk profiles. They will be able to log in each morning and keep their extension.

Usually, I use non-associated mailboxes only with CRAs for special purposes. Also, I use non-associated mailbox with record-a-call feature, where recorded conversations would go in a "centralized" mailbox.

Good luck!

You can transfer calls directly to any mailbox, associated or not. Press the Voice Mail key instead of the Transfer key, enter the mailbox number and hang up.

Ah, I see.  I would imagine I would have to program one of the buttons to be the voice mail key or is there a dedicated voicemail button already?

Whoever programmed the system should have put a voice mail key on the phones. Do you access voice mail by dialing the application number?

Another good idea, thanks!

Right now we have to dial 2500 to get to voice mail.

I'm sure I can rig this myself.  I'll give it a go.

Thanks,

Can you guys tell me what I'd have to do to make a voicemail transfer button?  We already have #11 button set to feature #345, Transfer to Ring.  This does not work to transfer unassociated mailboxes.

I'd like to use #9 button, as we don't use the voicemail from the phones.  Everyone gets it Via email.

Program a DSS key for 2500.

What is a DSS key, and how do I do this?

For key #9, click on Value and select DSS/PKM from the drop down list. Enter 2500 in the Selection field.
