Is there any reason to or not to use 3 digit extensions?

Default, we are using 4 digit extension but would like to go back to 3 digit for ease of remembering.

Is there any technical reason this should not be done?

Nope, we have loads of sites with three digit extn numbers, either to match the system we are replacing or to match DDI digits.
