Title: Power Converter Issue
Post by: bluewhite4 on January 08, 2013, 02:20:56 PM
"ANCILLARY SYSTEM REPORT of a FAULTY operations condition :
in cabinet 01 the CONVERTER on shelf 1 (plane A0) is INOPERABLE. "

Receiving the above error in Maintenance logs of a 2000 box. Have replaced the converter with a known working one, and 4 hours later, got the log again. Anyone with any ideas?

Does the red power light happen to be on or off?
I've seen something similar where the converter worked but the red light was off.  When this happened none of my analog lines would ring.
If you don't have analog lines then you wouldn't notice a problem except for the logs.

Not sure about the red power light.

Its a small school, so there are several analog. The people who are seeing the problem more though are the two DNIC cards. They claim that their phones loose power and then come back online two minutes later. (With no evidence of the DNIC cards resetting in the logs. Only errors that the trunks go down, and that there's a power converter issue.)

Just as an update, we believe we found the problem.

The UPS on the system was apparently failing. And while the UPS wasn't fully taking the system offline, it looks like it wasn't delivering either clean power or all the needed power. As soon as it was plugged directly into the wall until a replacement UPS can be ordered, the problem went away.
