Has anyone used the New Mitel StreamLine unit? I just found the docs on it on MOL. Never heard of it before. It's supposed to run POE over a single pair of CAT3 cable up to 1200 feet (365 meters). Up to 48 devices can be run off of it.
OMG! Why haven't I heard of this before?
See the Unit here. (http://www.mitel.com/products/unified-communications-platforms/mitel-communications-director/streamline/MitelStreamLine/)

I haven't used the streamline, however installed several phybridge uniphyer units.
They work well, the streamline is just a Mitel branded unit and is 1u instead of 2.

Indeed a new exciting product. Unique to the industry.

In the brochure it says it delivers ethernet and PoE over a single pair, then in another paragraph it says every phone needs a Streamline phone adaptor which delivers power. Which sounds more likely than shoving the 15v or so down 365 metres of two pair cable!

Yeh there is an adapter at the far end

Just had a look at the pricing, if you want to get 48 phones working in a remote building 300m away over a 50 pair.
£3810 for the 48 port unit and the Streamline 'dongles' as Mitel describe them.

It'd almost be as cheap to have single Cat5e sockets set up and run the PC's through the phone. I beleive the 'dongle' is a PoE injector as well.....looking at the photo.

Yes, the StreamLine Unit does deliver power over 2-wires. The Dongle adapter translates power from the 2-wires over to the RJ45 phone side. The Dongle can be located up to a distance of 1200ft (365m) from the StreamLine Unit. The phone is not locally powered. eg. not from a power brick.
