I have a 5020IP phone. When I plug it into the network, the screen says "dhcp: offer 1 rej" then "dhcp: offer 2 rej" etc,
What can I do to get the phone to initialize?
Thanks

Odds are pretty good that the data port you're plugged into isn't correct.
Or --- you have a rouge DHCP server on the network.
Try unplugging another IP phone and plugging it back in to be sure it's coming up ok. if not, then you have a DHCP server error.

I plugged in another phone after this one at the same location and it initialized perfectly...

I would Restore Defaults on the phone, then go to the DHCP server in any VLANs (voice and data is applicable) and check the leases for that phones MAC address and delete them, then try again.

5020's are old phones. If you have a new 3300 the chances are it is not being offered the correct DHCP options. 5020 will require the 'old' options 128. 129 etc where as newer handsets will accept option 125

Good call BobCheese.
I forgot about that.

If I remember correctly, if you have an old 5020, other than the dual port 5020, it will not accept an ip address if you use LLDP and maybe CDP.

So the simple work around for mayerfeld is to set the IP address statically.

how do I set a static IP for the phone?

Hold the 9 key while booting the phone. It will then put you into a series of questions. You want to Modify Static Values.
