Title: Direct Dailing
Post by: Metallix on May 02, 2012, 05:24:12 AM
Hi,

i was wondering if anyone could help me with something.

At the moment when someone calls the office all the phones ring, anyone can answer it and then forward the caller to the correct person.
My manager has become concerned that some people are giving out there extension number so they can be called directly and he wants me to find away to block this.

I assume that you have a PRI and their extension numbers are DIDs?

to be honest I'm not sure, i am literally flying blind.

the last IT guy didn't document anything, no one knew anything about the phone system when i started and I'm having to work everything out for myself. i had to gess the login details for the phone system.

from what i can find digging through the system the extensions are DID but im not sure about the rest

start by calling your carrier and finding out what your DID range is.
If it matches your extensions then you may have to renumber those extensions.

It's also possible to come through your auto attendant.   If a user gives out the main number and it rings to an auto attendant then the caller may be able to dial the extension number from there.

If they are calling the DID of the phone you can stop that from being called. In class of service there is a feature called non did extension or something like that set it to no and that extension wont be able to accept DID calls. Make sure you only set it for that class of services associated with that phone.
