Title: Dial by Name
Post by: swilson on February 12, 2009, 04:09:07 PM
Does anyone know how to turn on dial by name functionality in the auto attendant?  We are using the embedded voicemail.  I am thinking this might not be possible due to our large cluster.

I don't believe there is a way to turn it off. Callers just need to hit "9" to start using it from the main menu of the AA.

I tried it out and the problem is we have 13 controllers with auto attendants on 8 of them, and voicemail boxes on two of them.  So right now it only works if you call in and hit the auto attendant that has the employee's voicemail box.  Does anyone know how to get working across multiple auto attendants?

You'll have to have all mailboxes on each system you need dial by name by.

Or, upgrade to a centralized voice mail,
Or, incorporate the new Microsoft Exchange stuff -really cool, voice activated, call me if you want a demo.
Or, pick up a used voice mail system for that express purpose.   You could even use an old DOS machine for that.  Cheap solution but it's another data base you'd have to maintain.  If it crashes you pick up another one.

That is what I thought, thanks for the verification.

Do check out the MS Exchange stuff though.  If you have internal staff that's good with Exchange, it's worth checking out.   SIP to the 3300.

if you just want to use it for centralized Auto attendant.. set up an Asterisk server and use it as an AA only.. would save a lot of license fees for mailbox licenses on all of the 3300's..  you can run it via SIP lineside or SIP trunks to the 3300's...

Thats a good idea.  I keep forgetting about the Astrisk.

An unrelated question though,  I'd like to take an Astrisk box, set up a DID to it and have it read back to you your Caller Id.
Doable?
