Title: 3300 to 5000 SIP
Post by: jeremywatco on October 19, 2011, 06:20:24 PM
Hi All,

I'm looking for some instructions on linking a 3300 to a 5000 via SIP. I have SIP licenses on both ends for this I just don't know how to do this. My reseller wants big money to do it for us and we dont have a Mitel Online Account. Its my understanding there is an easy to follow guide on Mitel Online that goes through this exact same procedure.

Any pointers?

Thanks!

It is actually very easy just a matter of setting up a sip peer profile on the 3300 help file is helpful. And then setting up a sip provider on the 5000. I didn't look online to see if there is a guide but I did it in a matter of minutes. Those bills you pay to your support company aren't cheap but being a Mitel trained tech is not cheap either.

The problem isnt the $$$ really. Its that the vendor we have gone with is totally swamped and I've been assigned a brand new tech that is Mitel certified I'm told however the tech doesnt know how to do anything. Our install at our Corporate office took 3 days and after the tech left I ended up having to redo everything as nothing was working.

So its not that I'm being a cheap skate its that I've lost faith in the tech assigned to us. And I can't get a better tech for about a month.

That makes sense give it a shot on setup and ask along the way. It is just a matter like I said of setting up the SIP provider in each of them. The help guide in the 3300 should explain the basics of sip programming. It is truely that easy from the time I set it up.

SIP LINK STATE ALL in the 3300 Mainteance and Diagnostics will show if it is up that is 1/2 the battle.

Try syncing your system and see if they add sorry you got the reseller you do. If they don't add then they havent even added them to your record at Mitel.

Finally able to update this post....

So... turns out dealer's policy is to lock out the end users from making any changes... they "accidentally" gave me access to our 3300.. so the past month I've been battling over giving me access to the system WE paid for.

So I got that. At the same time asked them to go ahead and link up the 5000 to the 3300 via SIP... which they did.. however... when calling an extension from the 5000 to the 3300 there is about a 30 second delay of silence and then it will ring.... any thoughts? Dealer says thats how sip works. I totally would understand a moment or two, but 30 seconds is crazy.

As a VAR I've never understood that policy.  I agree, the customer bought the system, they need the access and control of the access.  Will they accept the responsibilities (financial) if your system is hacked?   Doubt it.

Not the case.  I've programmed 3300 to 3300 via SIP.  No delay.  We're also connecting lots of SIP trunks to carriers now also.  No delay.
The issue is probably caused by an interdigit timer in the COS of either the calling phone or the trunk.

Thanks for the response. Yeah from the 3300 to the 5000 its instant. 5000 back to 3300 its a clear 30 seconds of blank airtime.

Any pointers on where the timers are located in the 5000 programming?

Expand the system field and Timers and Limits should be near the bottom.

Have a play about with the interdigit long and short timers, hit F1 whilst on the page for a description of what they do.

TBH though neither should give you a wait time of 30 seconds unless they have been changed from the default.

Try dialling a # after the extn number to send the digits immediately as well.

**SIGH***

Just downloaded the 3.2 admin guide... LOTS of stuff missing from my "admin" access, including timers. Looks like I'm going to battle again. I just don't get it. They are totally driving me into another dealers arms.

Also, I am assuming that currently there is not way to utilize IP Networking between a 3300 & 5000... SIP is the only way correct?

Correct, unless you add some sort of Gateway devices at both ends and use ISDN ports on the two systems.
