Are Mitel 3300 CXi II is setup as a key system. We have 8 lines and they are setup as keys to view line appearance. When dialing externally, the users have to press a line key then dial the number. Is it possible to change it so they can simply dial the number?

The 3300 can't do a true "key system". We can sorta "fake it" but it's not really a true key system.
The answer depends on how the keys on your phone are programmed. If they are programmed as DTS, (Direct Truck Select) - then no.
If they are programmed as key appearances - then yes.
You may be able to get an idea as to how they're programmed if when you dial out, you have to press the key and then dial "9" for a second dial tone. (may 8 or some other number - (or 0 for my "down under" friends))

Do not need to dial '9' to dial out, we simply press whatever line it is (say line 2 is free), then dial the number. Not sure if we are setup as DTS but possibly we are see below settings...
DTS Service Profiles:
Index: 3
COS: 27
Intercept Number: 1
Analog Trunks:
DTS Service Number: 3
Trunk Number: 102
For a User and Devices and under 'Keys' programming:
Label: Line 2
Line Type: Key System
Button Directory Number: T102

You'd have to reconfig your set up to make that happen.
Even then, you'd have to dial an ARS code to get out.
Unfortunately there isn't a "direct to ARS" feature in the 3300. (yet)

i agree - depends on what you want, but on the surface it will be a pretty major change - mostly in users experience with the system. Small key system offices don't like PBX type systems to it may not work out well for your users.
