Good Morning.
I have a controller at the above release. The plan to to jack it up to MCD 8.0 latest SP. Can I upgrade straight from MCD 4.2 to MCD 8.0.
Or would it be better to go MCD 4.2->MCD6.0->MCD8.0
Also does the mitel need a passive FTP server? It's been years since I have upgraded a controller using FTP.
Reach upgrade should take around 1.5 hours? Or the AX controllers slower.
thanks
Kal.

The release notes say you can go direct from 4.2 to 8.0 assuming the hardware is compatible. Not sure I'd actually do that, however. Is it in a cluster?
-
Yes it part of a cluster so this one is first and then the backup unit. I'll read the release notes, as I am not sure about the hardware etc ram wise.

According to the release notes, MCD 6.0. IP trunks only work with MCD 6.0, IE it will not talk to MCD 4.2 is that correct ? Until it's been upgraded.

Yeah in that case I would go 4.2 to 6.0 then 6.0 to 8.0.

I have done a lot of these... your plan is reasonable to upgrade in steps, I have seen too large a jump cause issues with phones taking firmware (it shouldn't, but I have seen it).
The modern versions of Mitel Software Installer do not require a stand-alone FTP server, it can handle it within the application. That said, I often use an ftp server on laptop just out of habit.
And the upgrade could take 1.5 hours, but 50-75 minutes on an AX is more common... Remember in the AX it doesn't install help files on the controller itself, so that kind of compensates for the slower system.

Thanks all.

Sorry to bother, one more thing. Will MCD6.0 need the root certificate update when it boots up.

Yes.
-
ok it will boot back up,but cry about the license violation.
-
Remember you must have valid SWA in place to do this... otherwise it will never license, regardless of the root cert patch.
-
It has valid SA. Does anyone know the command to find out the flash card size? from the GUI or via the serial port.

thank you. I have upgraded it from 4.2 to MCD8.0 directly.
