Title: 5sec Voice Mails - Can you get rid of them?
Post by: mopar_mudder on November 17, 2021, 04:41:11 PM
We have had our 250 system with 5340e phones for a little over a year now. I get dozens of 5 second blank voice mails every day and am really tiered of it, these are calls that go to my voice mail but no message is left. The company that sold and installed our phone system said that is just the way it works and can't be changed, I can't imagine their can be such a major flaw in the system that everyone would be complaining about it.

I checked and "Deliver Hang Up Messages" is set to NO

Please tell me how I can fix this.

There is a Shortest Message Allowed option - default is 3 seconds - can be changed to max of 5 seconds.  Found in Voice Processor - Timers and Limits folder

Just remember this might mean that very short VALID message would get thrown out... "Call me as soon as you get this" or similar would never get delivered, and callers are not likely to wait on the line long enough to get the "your message is too short" info message. Then again, it could be fine as well.

This is already set to 5 seconds.

Any other ideas, this must be a common problem I would think.

It's not a very common problem...

What is your call flow... Give me a cradle to grave please...

Not sure exactly what you want but all calls coming in are answered by the auto attendant, from that menu you pick the extension that you want to talk to and it transfers you. If the extension is not answered and you hang up on the greeting message it leave a 5sec black message. Not even waiting for the "leave a message" tone, this is just hanging up on the "I'm not here right now" message.

mopar_mudder,

Go to your mailbox and change Deliver Hangup Messages (when ANI is available) to No.

Thanks,

TE
