Title: Identify which PSU is failing in a MXe
Post by: bajangerry on April 27, 2021, 04:53:39 PM
Hi Guys,

I have an MXe with two PSU and one is failing as I can see the alerts but it is intermittent so I need to be able to identify the failing unit from the maintenance logs, the entry is as below but I am not sure if the "1" indicates the first power supply or if that just means 1 of the 2 power supplies failed.

Warning   2021/Apr/22   17:00:07   REDUNDANT   Power supply 1 removed

Right now both are working so the "SHOW STATUS REDUNDANT" does not help me identify the faulty one.

Any ideas?

Gerry

It definitely tells you which one, and they are labeled 1 and 2 (not 0 and 1 like some vendors would label this stuff). Replace PSU #1, it's probably just a bad fan, but as far as I know the fans in those things aren't field replaceable.

Thanks, I figured the 1 meant to identify which it was but was not sure if it would be 0 and 1 or 1 and 2. I have a replacement PSU to install tomorrow so I will find out for sure when I pull one out if the numbers match up.

You can also hot swap them so you don't need to shut down or anything.

Yes, I am aware of that and that will allow me to pull the first one and it should show as "Power supply 1 removed" in the logs.
