I ran an upgrade on my lab system yesterday from 8.0SP2 (14.0.1.29) to 9.0SP3 (9.0.3.15). The upgrade took about 4 hours which included a manual database restore. I ended up getting a licensing error and believe this is why the database restore failed. I want to test the upgrade again but after accessing the console I see version 9 has a different command set. I looked at the THB and see the instructions including the setenv commands for a manual software load in 9.0 code and instruction to point to ppc image. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with downgrading from 9.0 to 8.0 and if they could provide any guidance. Thanks in advance.

Instructions are either online or in the tech handbook

I was always told you can't, you can go up but not down, although that may be a little different context than what you are trying to do as I think that was meant for upgrade/downgrades... Go get a SATA 128GB SSD or any SATA 80GB+ 2.5 HDD and pop it in there and do a clean install. You will need to restore the 8.0 database as a 9.0 database cannot be migrated backwards.

Thanks for the replies:
john, i didn't find downgrading that applied to going from 9 to 8 in the THB.
acejavelin, I had a spare ssd from Mitel and it had 8.0SP1 on it. I installed the ssd and booted my lab machine and ran the upgradebootrom from maintenance window. This gave me vxworks and I was able to install 8 using the manual procedure.

You can downgrade from 9.0 to 8.0.
There is a migration guideline PDF that will explain you how to do it in the help files.

Thanks august!
Mitel calls the procedure a Reverse Migration. The guide says to run a command to downgrade uboot to vxworks and perform a manual installation.

Maybe failed licensing as by upgrading you have used the updated security certificate and sync'd to amc, try manually upgrading certificate on the rel 8 after the downgrade
