Title: 3300 MXe III need software for latest 14.0 (MCD 8?)
Post by: andrew867 on July 02, 2019, 08:18:43 PM
Hi all!

I have a lab MXe III that is currently running MCD 8 (14.0.0.97) and I would like to upgrade it to the latest version. Would someone be able to provide the software image and installer?

Thanks,
Andrew

Is this system under software assurance? The latest is v9 something and requires the migration tool

No it isn't, but would it be possible to get the latest MCD 8 release? It was purchased used from the usual e-place as a learning tool as I had never touched a Mitel system before :)

If you do not have SWA, you cannot upgrade. Not sure if the current key would work on releases in load. Sometimes it does and other times not.

Ok thanks, what about a copy of the same version that is currently installed in case I screw up the whole thing and need to reinstall (or if the SSD dies)?

You can update to the latest MCD 8.0 SP3 without SWA, you just can't go to 9.0

Mitel now also publish their system documents on their website. They will tell you all you need to know.

They're under Support/Technical Documentation.

Whether you can or can upgrade to release 9.0 it does not depend on whether the SWAS is active or on, but what is stated on AMC for the ARID.

This is true but you can't change the version in the AMC without active SWA.

So a customer with active SWA who is entitled to upgrade to the latest release (e.g. 9.0) but is still on 8.0, after the SWAS is expired the customer is not entitled to upgrade to 9.0 any more?

Is there any document that describes this?

Document? This is just how it works... When you upgrade and change the AMC record, you must have active software assurance at that time.

Imagine you have a car with a 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty, and your radio (or whatever) fails at 30,000 miles, but you don't take it to the dealer to get it fixed until you have 50,000 miles on your car... Will they still fix it for free? Nope, you are buying a radio now. The same would apply for a non-safety issue firmware update to your car... If it is in warranty it's free, if the warranty is expired then you have to pay to have it done.

Acejavelin, I'm just wondering because all our customers always had SWA active when I did upgrade..

If you buy a new car all there service periods are defined in written and you have to keep them otherwise you will lost the warranty. That is why I was asking for a document.
Obviously you like examples, so I will also give you one. If you buy a PC or phone you can do firmware or software updates, when it is no longer under warranty you can still do them in most cases even ehen the a SW was released after your warranry ended. Of course the seller will not do the upgrade for you any more (to solve some problem) but you can still to it yourself.

You can still update within your main version (i.e. service packs)

Think of Mitel without SWA like windows  ;) You can't upgrade Windows 7 to 8.0/8.1/10 without paying for it.
You can update but you can't upgrade. i.e. you can update 8.0.0 to its service packs but you can't upgrade past the major version.

The release notes mention what versions need to be synced to the AMC on upgrade. Basically any major release, except 4.1 -> 4.2
