Title: Help System Slowdown Problems - Mitel 3300
Post by: saks23 on October 27, 2010, 01:04:02 PM
Recently we have installed a Mitel 3300 IP Phone system in our infrastructure. The infrastructure is a mix of Analogue Phones (180) and IP Phone (140) - so we have a MXe and an AXe controller.
Since inception all we had was problems but the worst being the entire phone system slows down at around 4:45 pm every day for about 20 minutes. If you transfer calls it takes a couple of seconds to respond. If you dial a number it takes a good second before it appears in the 5312 IP Phone screen! You often get dropped calls during this period !

The processor in the MXe shows it is running on 100% (we have added the additional processor also)! The network has separate VLAN and QOS installed but shows no sign of increased traffic during this period.
The solution provider blames the network, Mitel has been non responsive and I am desparately looking for solution. Any ideas ?

PS: I regret the decision of going for a Mitel Solution over a Cisco Solution just for a few pounds (losing revenue more than that in a week).

Humm that's interesting what are you using to monitor the traffic on the voice vlan and where are you seeing the CPU spike to 100%

v2win has a point.
Are you using something to monitor SMNP traps?
Like WhatsUpGold or something else?

If yes, disable the monitor to see if that makes a difference.

We were not using any monitors when the slowdown started. We saw the CPU spike with RAW onto MXe on port 2002 then use the command PS.

We have noticed a peak in call volumes during this period though. Is there an optimal call volume that the system can handle ?
Is there a way to increase this ?

How many ACD queues do you have and what's your average queue time look like for that period?

There is an engineering calculator that can determine the performance index of a system and what the impact of X amount of calls per hour with what applications you have. Your business partner should be able to run that calculation.

In addition to traffic, many other factors affect system PI. For example, a large number of voicemail ports can significantly increase the system PI because streaming data to the hard disk is a CPU-intensive operation. Similarly, call monitors (features, not voice) used for ACD, HotDesk, and several external applications, along with SMDR logging, can add processor load. These are all taken into account automatically in the System Engineering Tool.

IIRC with around 100 phones you are looking at around 10000 calls per hour on a MXe system.

Now I did notice you have 2 systems is the AX just for you analog and all you IP phones are registered to the MXe

Why is Mitel non responsive, and how did you try to get this to them?
Do you still have this issue?

Some local Mitel offices can be slow to respond/have issues.  Just like some dealers.  I'm guessing that is the case?
