Title: Calls dropping incoming/outgoing
Post by: armstr_a on July 16, 2012, 06:08:50 AM
Hi i'm having problems with our phone system where by calls are being dropped intermittently. The call quality seems slightly degraded also?

On looking at the error logs i can see every now and then it has a major alarm then a few seconds later will go back to showing no alarm and all fine. Some of the diag logs since a full reboot are shown below - I notice D-Channel keeps reporting going UP and Down.

I've reported to BT who have checked the line and referred it back to a Mitel local phone system issue. I know they pretty much always say this! Hopefully the errors below will indicate where the problem lies?

Thanks in advance

Go to maintenance commands and enter "DTS Read <PLID of PRI> last 24"

This will show you the last 24 hour stats.
I'm betting you'll see several hours of less than 100%.
This will generally point to the carrier.

There's a couple of things you can do.
1- reboot your system if you haven't already.  - I honestly don't think it will do anything for you but you can say you did it.
2- if you're getting a lot of frame losses you can put a loop back plug toward the PBX to see if that clears up the losses.  If yes, tell the carrier to get their butts out there.
3- This one could easily be option 2 - replace the cable beween the carrier interface and the PBX.
4- Order a vendor meet.   Get both Mitel and the carrier on site and have them 'work it out'.

If you do call for a vendor meet, make the telco do end-to-end pattern tests. It's been my experience that a circuit the telco says is fine, with no problems will suddenly show errors during pattern tests.

Hi guys thanks for the info the engineer for the mitel system couldn't find any faults our side but could see slips and frame losses so referred it to the telco. The telco engineer found and issue with a twisted pair at the local exchange. Having repaired this the problems has gone away and no alerts on my system for a day or so now.

Thanks again.

It's amazing how it's never the telco's fault until...  oops!  "We fixed it!  Don't we give good customer service!"
