Hi folks,
I thought I might bring this up again as we're still experiencing this issue and haven't found any resolution yet.

Basically we'll see the light blinking on inbound call, but there's no audible ring tone. This doesn't happen on every call, and it only affects one or two of our 140 phones (though it's not limited to any one phone.) Then perhaps the next one rings just fine, without having changed anything. It's random. Power-cycling/rebooting the phoneset doesn't help. I've even swapped phone sets for a given extension and the -replacement- phone doesn't ring either. The only thing I've found that "seems" to work is to completely blow out the whole extension and rebuild it, but that's really not practical to do every time. I've rebooted the 3300's and the Streamlines, and that also "appears" to work, but as it's random, the issue invariably crops up again somewhere else.

Any wizards have any clues on how we might squash this bug?

TIA,
-dg

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Re: "People" key on 5360 handsets

Oh cool!
That's really good to know that the set can truly be cleared. That's also a heck of a key combo... Sounds like I need to chew tin foil and touch the antenna at the same time! heh

It is still strangely disturbing that the People data isn't managed by the controller (and can't be moved between sets)... it's just odd.

Is there a reference somewhere that describes what all those things do? I don't have MOL access, so forgive me if it's obvious.

Thanks,

Hi there.
I brought up a similar question about the "People" application on our 5340e sets. Lengthy discussion (and some investigation) with my VAR leads me to the conclusion that this is storage that is -only- in the phoneset. We couldn't find any way to back it up, move/copy to another set, or even easily delete the data in the People app, from or to MiVoice/Collab. The only saving grace here is that our 5340's also have the regular Phone Book, but with no way for users to modify it. It doesn't help things that it's so easy to add callers from history "to People."

From a security perspective, this scares me a bit as well - let's say a user stores some secure/private stuff in People, and then perhaps the user leaves or the phoneset gets assigned to another user... I would have assumed that provisioning the set as new would delete all the data on any set, but it doesn't. The People entries must be removed one by one on the set itself. I have yet to find any way to -completely- wipe a whole phoneset.

I hope I am wrong, and there is some other solution, but this is the best I could come up with.

Cheers,

Perhaps an entirely different solution -
You could just use an external analog (or SIP) ringer, or even any other phone(s) with a different sound. Just configure the hotline to dial a second ring group that includes the extra phones or ringer. We have evening calls set to ring over our paging system, for example, but any alternate ringer would be sufficient. Granted, if this involves many separate areas, then you'd need an alternate sound and device for each...

Just a thought.

Well, given that these are some really old buildings, it could just be terrible cat3 causing some of the issues. I've seen these Streamlines fail to release/renew MAC addresses, borked ports that send power but no data, go dumb (not respond to ping or http but still pass traffic), change or forget configs after a power event... you name it. Yea, the dongles go weird, too. I've only had these for just over two years, and I've had to replace two already.

Despite all that, they do seem to do what they're supposed to, most of the time. When there are weird phoneset issues, though, I have to look at the Streamlines too. It just makes for that much more troubleshooting.

Thanks for that. I haven't checked there yet. My focus has moved towards a bunch of network packet errors on the Streamline adapter for that particular port. Those things are notoriously buggy, particularly the dongles, and even line cords matter. I'll have to test that first tomorrow morning.

Of course, that doesn't explain why rebuilding the previous two phones in the 3300 fixed it, since the 3300 and Streamline are completely independent of each other.

I'll do more specific testing and report back.

Hi folks,
I don't remember if I asked about this before. This is the third case I've seen now, so I figure it's time for some advice.

I have a phone that doesn't hang up, either with the hookswitch or with the cancel key, and basically it appears all the buttons are kinda frozen. It's pretty weird. Some dialed digits might show up on the display but there are no dtmf tones. THe hookswitch obviously works to -answer- but doesn't work to hang up (among other oddball behavior.) Rebooting the set works for a little while, but then reverts.

At first glance, it would seem that it's the phoneset, but when I saw this the first time, I swapped the extension to another set, and the behavior persists, so it's not the phone. Completely blowing out the phone and extension seems to fix it, but the case I have now is a reception phone with pkm and various other customizations that would be a real PITA to rebuild.

Has anyone heard if this or know of a permanent solution? FYI this is a 3300 cluster running 7.1PR1/13.1.0.36.

Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks,

Hi.
I just found my error. Apparently I had added the same person twice -- once with an extension, and another without. I just deleted the entry with no extension from the directory and we're all better.

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / No extension shown in phone book
« on: December 29, 2015, 08:24:03 AM »
Hi folks. I'm at a loss here. Just built a new extension like I always do. For some reason, when searching this person in the phone book, the name shows, but no extension. Don't know if this is relevant, but she's also built in MAS and nupoint. The number is not listed as private, and from all I can tell, is the same as the others that do show...

Ideas welcome,
Thanks,

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / "Best" ATA for fax machines?
« on: December 28, 2015, 10:14:27 AM »
Good day, folks,

I'm interested in putting several fax machines on our 3300 with ATA's. We tried this before using ports on the analog cards over SIP and it was a miserable failure. However, now we're on a PRI, so I'm fairly certain faxes should work properly. I'm also thinking that ATA's would be more flexible in that I can move them around with existing ethernet ports rather than having to reroute phone wires. What models of ATAs are officially supported for the 3300? Are the Cisco 112/122's covered? Grandstream? Any others? I'd like to hear experiences from folks that are using any ATAs for faxing.

Thanks in advance,
-dg

Hi all,
This has been bugging me now for a while - my 5340e on my desk sometimes just doesn't have audio while 'ringing.' The light blinks and the display shows an inbound call, but there's no 'ring.' It's not muted and the volume is set to a pretty good level. Without doing anything, perhaps the next call will ring. It's random.

We're on (unfortunately) StreamLine adapters, and I have experienced some pretty weird power related issues with them in the past, so perhaps that's the case here. The phone otherwise works fine, and I've had no other reports from any of the other 140 users.

It's a fairly difficult issue to test as there's no a/b scenario to verify. It just decides when it wants to misbehave on its own.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a known issue? Is there a fix?

TIA,
-dg

I happen to have a sacrificial 5330 here (intentionally broken display, unfortunately,) so I took it apart for my own purposes - mostly to figure out the mechanics of the buttons.

Anyway, I just took a closer look at the mic unit. It appears to be a piezo element, so the diaphragm is metal, not foil, as would be if it were an electret condenser. I poked a paper clip at it pretty good and there doesn't appear to be any damage, though for obvious reasons, I can't test it :) There's a cloth filter, too that you'd have needed to poke through as well. Pics available if needed.

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Re: configs for spa2102/spa112/spa122?
« on: September 16, 2015, 02:56:28 PM »
Thanks, I'll look into that.

Actually we're not using SIP at the carrier level, just PRIs out of the buildings, so I'm not sure that applies.  I do have it mostly working - just ironing out the actual dial plan on the Cisco unit. Receives and answers fine, but just can't negotiate outbound dialing yet. I'm primarilt interested in using these units for faxes somewhere down the road. We have several of the ASU installed in the 3300's for this purpose, but it's just easier to hang one of these from an existing ethernet drop than to pull a new phone pair.

Thanks,
-dg

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / configs for spa2102/spa112/spa122?
« on: September 10, 2015, 11:14:30 AM »
Hi all,

I'm doing some experimentation with using some ATA's on our 3300 system. In this case, I'm interested in config assistance on a Cisco SPA2102. I'm aware this unit is EOL, and I expect to be getting a couple 112's next week. My understanding is that there are docs on MOL for these units, however, as I'm the end user, I don't have access to MOL, and my VAR is notoriously difficult to reach.

I believe I have the unit registered OK, but I'm having issues with where to begin with dial plan or any of the many other details in the SPA. (right now, the analog phone attached to it works when dialed, but cannot dial out.) Curiously this is the opposite problem of the issue I was dealing with yesterday on XLite. I'm just learning all the nuances of using generic SIP devices, so I appreciate any input.

Thanks in advance,
-dg
