We have a Mitel 3300 en my boss asked if it is possible to attach an Aastra9133i IP phone to our PBX.
In our list of possible phones there are no Aastra or generic phones available.
Can it be done?
-
What software version of the 3300 are you running?
-
ICP software version 7.0.8.5
-
I don't believe 7.X supported SIP sets. You are definitely going to want to upgrade your system. Mitel has made numerous changes/improvements in the way they handle SIP since then.
-
We do want to upgrade, only we aren't sure to where we should, with cloud telephony and such. We hired a few more staff and they should have a phone to work with. The Aastra phones are from another company and we could test them.
To bad is can't be done. An upgrade would mean that the controller need to be replaced.
-
Out of curiosity, why does it automatically mean that the controller needs to be replaced? Is it an older MX or 100/200 User system?
-
How can i see that?
-
Easiest way would be to look at the sticker on the underside of the system. If that's not possible, then I believe there might be a maintence command that can be used.

The inquiry shows an 3300 MX controller, so that should be a 200 user system.
It was installed in 2006, so that could count as an old system.
-
You still could take the system to the last version of 9 then. This would give you SIP phones.
Otherwise we usually try to get customers to look at it like this. The phone system is like a server. A 6 year hardware life isn't that bad. Plus for the cost of updating the hardware, you don't have to replace all the phones.
-
Alright. I'll ask what the costs of upgrading to version 9 are. We will consider other options as well.
Thanks for the very quick replies.
