Found a great tool.

This is something I've wanted to do for a very long time.

There is another number which I use to ID the line you are on. It is an MCI number........1-800-444-4444. It replies:
"Thank you for calling MCI. Our system indicates you are calling from XXX-XXX-XXXX."
Hang up after you hear this. Thanks.

I know this is an old topic but... I have used code 997 to identify POTS lines for years. It doesn't seem to work for anything else.
Also I found out recently that is local to my area. These are subset of Plant Test numbers called Automatic number Announcement Circuits.

I use the MCI number, I don't run across many terminals anymore. 8)
