In process with Mitel to roll out big upgrades to our InterTel 5000.  New UC.  New AWC.  New MultiTech fax.  Mobile Apps.  Etc.

I've figured out how to push the fax client out via GPO.

I've even figured out how to push the UC out via GPO.

But now I see that the AWC has it's own "CC" or "Collaboration Client."  There are actually two clients one could install:

Collaboration_Client-M.exe
or
Collaboration_Client-admin-M.exe (an admin version ostensibly for Citrix environments)

File sizes of both are exactly the same, but there are some differences in the installation routine.

It appears that this app was designed to be user installed via joining a web conference.  However, I see it as working hand-in-hand with the UC as part of an internal working environment and creating video and web calls on the fly.  To do that I think that the CC should be rolled out along with the UC.

There appears to be no documentation on this and no MSI file that one can roll out via GPO.  Not even sure if you can use /switches with these files.

What do you think of this approach and has anyone attempted to do this?

Thanks.

Mitel Software Applications / Android App - First thoughts
« on: November 22, 2011, 04:29:33 PM »
Loaded the Android UCA app.

It drained my battery in 4 hours.  There was no way to exit the app.  It starts on bootup and runs until your phone dies.

Uninstalled it.  Back to normal.

Anyone else play with it?

Looks like I got it to work.  The key seems to be generating an MST transform file with the fields filled in, and run it against the msi file.

There are two other areas where the variable [UC_SERVER_HOSTNAME] is in the msi file.  I replaced them with my UC name ie mitel.company.org

I save it to a new msi file.  But when I run the msi, the field is blank.  If I deploy as a package, the field is blank.  Is there something else you need to do to edit the file and fill in the field?

335
Sigh.  Didn't work.  Not sure why.  It just doesn't fill in the field.

336
Found it.  Edited it.  Saved to a new MSI file.

I know it's off topic, but how in the world did you find that field?  I'm new to msi editing.

I found a similar tool called InstEd to open the msi file.  But there are dozens if not hundreds of fields.  While one did you use to enter the server name?

Thanks.

Is there a readme with an argument / switch list so I can pass through the name of my UCA server to the MSI install?

My GPO works flawlessly, but UCA installs without the server name of the UCA Server and comes up off-line.  Furthermore, you cannot enter the server name after the install.  At best, you need to go to Programs&Features and select "Change" and then enter your UCA Server name.

This ruins the whole point of an MSI file install.

For those looking at the .Net deploy that is a pre-requisite of this install, you can use WSUS.

Thanks for your suggestions.

What a timely question.  I'll trade answers with you.

The answer is that you can deploy this package via WSUS.  Now, I recognize that you might not have a WSUS server setup, but it's a free package from MSFT and I use it to patch my approximately 65 desktops and laptops.  We just started playing with UCA and I too want to use GPO to deploy the unifiedcommunicator.msi file and hit this requirement of .Net being installed first.

You need to enable the "Feature Packs" check box in WSUS to make it available to deploy.  I did so and pushed it out to a test Windows 7 machine and it installed without a reboot (not sure about other OSs).  To validate the install, I then executed the UCA.msi install, and it went right by the .Net check and went right into the MSI install.

Now for the info I need.  Is there a readme with an argument / switch list so I can pass through the name of my UCA server to the MSI install?  Because what happens is that UCA installs without the server name and comes up off-line.  Furthermore, you cannot enter the server name after the install.  At best, you need to go to Programs&Features and select "Change" and then enter your UCA Server name.

This ruins the whole point of an MSI file install.

Thanks in advance if you have any hints for my question.  Here's more info on .Net deployment if you don't have a WSUS server.
