Title: G.722 (Mitel 3300)
Post by: marcolive on February 27, 2012, 09:43:46 AM
Hi all,

5330/5340/5360 on MCD 5 now support G.722 "wideband" CODEC.

Do you have any feedback from users on that? It seems that many users do not like that new "experience".

What are yours?

Thanks!

We have had to disable it on all systems we have upgraded. In fact done the last one about 15 minutes ago.

[Editors note July-23-2012:  For details on how to turn off the codec see this page (http://www.mitelforums.com/articles/3300/g.722-codec.php)]

Haven't used it myself but...
Everywhere I've seen comments about it they've all been negative.
It appears the quality is "so good" that it picks up everything.
Somewhere I've seen where Mitel is suggesting that you get your users to just "use it for a while".   They're apparently suggesting that once people get used to it they really like it.   Don't know about that.   Never seen where anyone has gotten through the "use it for a while" stage.

With smarbar on this. We now turn it off automatically on every/any site that gets 5.X

I actually haven't had anyone complain about it yet. Maybe I'm lucky.

Haven't had any complaints here from any of the upgrades I've done, and personally I haven't noticed any issues running it in the office on my own phone.

We like it but unfortunately our call recording equipment doesn't. We originally disabled it using the src but there's now an addcodec command available where you add it to take it out? This is on MCD 5.0 SP1.

You need to issue REMOVECODECFILTER <codec> from the maintenance command, and then that will disable it all together.
