SIP On Mitel / Mitel 6905 configuration files
« on: June 14, 2022, 08:20:44 AM »

Hello all,

I have created a TFTP server and successfully transitioned Mitel 6905 sets from MINET to SIP in order to utilize some Single Line licensing available on my system.  My problem is that I will be replacing loads of actual analog sets with the Mitel 6905s running in SIP mode to, again, utilize those licenses...however, having to use the individual phone's web UI to manually set things like the NTP server, speed dials and other various bits and bops I'd like to use a configuration file.  More specifically...I'd like to know if there's a way to export the completed configuration of one set that has been updated to a state acceptable for my users.  I am fully and painfully aware that I can create a configuration file, but I'm not at all comfortable doing so.  It just seemed logical to me that I'd be able to export or save a configuration already existing.  These SIP phones are loaded with SIP version 6.2 and will be deployed on MiVB systems running 9.2.  Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Good morning all!

As in the subject line I have a question regarding a specific command and was wondering if anyone has the same issue or, perhaps a resolution.  What I notice is that on my machines (40 of them) if I run the "LOGSYS READ SMDR ALL" command from maintenance, the machines start spitting out the data requested...so far, so good.  When I then issue the "LOGSYS CANCEL" command, however, the machines keep scrolling the SMDR data and do not stop.  I can't say definitively that I've seen this on all 40, but I've encountered this several times.  It's frustrating to say the least...

I'm usually accessing them via Firefox 78.0.2 (I know its not the latest but its a work PC and they only push/allow certain things).  I will try from Chrome and IE just to be doubly sure, but I can't imagine the browser has much to do with it.

Anyone else?

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Traffic Analysis Help
« on: January 12, 2015, 11:21:50 AM »
So I've run some traffic reports and I'm noticing something strange...  strange to the point of being completely baffling.  I will admit that my ability to read these logs as they should be read pretty well stops at looking at peg counts, trunk numbers and potential killer trunks.  I attempted to wrap my feeble mind around erlangs and have come well short.  That said, I'm very well sure that the numbers I'm going to show you, shouldn't be happening.  The thing is...I don't know how or why they are happening.  I'm attaching herein for expert review a several hours span of traffic files.  I'm paying special attention to the "Routes" section and the usage.  Specifically routes 8 and 9.

Route 8 = calls to extension 2800 (our voicemail system)
Route 9 = calls to #4 + 5 to follow (ex: #426195) (This routes internal callers directly to a voicemail box greeting, bypassing actually calling an extension and being forwarded to 2800)

The peg counts seem about right and can be easily proven with SMDR.  It's the usage numbers that just don't jive for me.

Routes

Route          Peg     Usage   Busy Peg  Overflow    Busy Hour
        Number              (Erlangs)                       Peg    Time

            7           6       0.07         0        0       6   06:00
            8           3     155.99         0        0       3   06:00
            9           1    ***.16         0        0       1   06:00
           11           7       0.10         0        0       7   05:00

            6           0       0.00         0
           10           0       0.00         0
           12           0       0.00         0
           13           0       0.00         0
           14           0       0.00         0
           15           0       0.00         0
           18           0       0.00         0
          200           0       0.00         0
                     ----     ------     -----    -----    ----
                       17    7783.33         0        0      17

In the above excerpt, how does 1 peg = 7000+ Erlangs of usage?

Here we can see the 4 calls to the voicemail T1.  (routes 8 and 9)

  Trunk Groups

Outgoing Trk   Trunk Group          Usage                    Maximum
Group Number      Label     Peg   (Erlangs)     Busy Peg   In Use/Avl.

       1              PRI         7       0.10          0        2/ 69
       3              MSDN        6       0.07          0        1/ 23
       4              Voicemai    4       0.02          0        1/ 24

They just don't add up...  HALP!

I have two 24 port Streamline units.  I have noted a similar problem in both and just want to confirm whether or not anyone else is having the same issue:

I have an NTP server on the network and both Streamlines configured to get the time from it.  The problem is when I navigate to the "Admin" tab and then to "Logs" I can clearly see that both of my Streamline units are out of sync with the NTP...they know that they are out of sync, there are logs detailing exactly how much they are out of sync, but the units fail to ever actually update the system time.

Here is a snippet of the log:

Apr 29 09:19:23 ntpd[216]: adjusting local clock by -12.458719s
Apr 29 09:22:18 ntpd[216]: adjusting local clock by -12.692293s
Apr 29 09:25:28 ntpd[216]: adjusting local clock by -12.824042s
Apr 29 09:26:30 ntpd[216]: adjusting local clock by -12.945684s
Apr 29 09:27:34 ntpd[216]: adjusting local clock by -13.454652s
Apr 29 09:43:38 ntpd[216]: adjusting local clock by -13.522583s
Apr 29 09:43:47 ntpd[216]: adjusting local clock by -15.399899s
Apr 29 10:18:53 ntpd[216]: adjusting local clock by -19.574738s

Even though the logs state it is adjusting the the local clock, it clearly is NOT as a few minutes later the time has continued to slip.  Can anyone confirm a similar issue with NTP on a Streamline?

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Time displayed on 5360 vs ss4025
« on: April 04, 2014, 08:24:38 AM »
I have a controller with both an IP phone 5360 and a superset 4025 configured.  Both of these sets are on my desk.

The controller is set up with an NTP server on our network.  READDATETIME shows me the correct time on the controller.  The SuperSet 4025 shows the exact same time.

HOWEVER, my 5360 is about 40-45 seconds behind on the time.  Rebooting the ip phone doesn't appear to make any difference.

Any suggestions on how I can get all of my phones, regardless of type, to display the same SNTP governed time?

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / V6.0 SP 2 Problems with backups
« on: March 25, 2014, 01:33:21 PM »
Hi guys!

Just curious to know if anyone else has heard of or seen this issue:

Occasionally, upon back-up completion, the controller asks if you want to save the file, we hit "save" ... and the dialog box disappears.  That's it, its over.  No option to select a folder or anything, the controller just basically killed the transfer.  Doing another back up and hitting save again, works like a charm.  We have 45 switches in our network all V6.0 SP2 and have this happen on one or two controllers a month, no pattern to speak of.  Could be one controller one time and a different one the next.  Anyone seen this?

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Using the Move Swap command in MCD 6.0
« on: January 24, 2014, 08:23:40 AM »
We've recently upgraded our Mitel PBXs to MCD 6.0 from MCD 4.  We had been using Mitel's Ops Manager tool to perform MAC operations.  However, now with Enterprise Manager 8.0, Ops Manager is no more.  So that means that we no longer have access to Ops Man's MAC worksheets that made moving users pretty simple.

This morning we attempted to use the "Move Sawp xxxx with xxxx" command to swap two DNIC phones.

Our database crapped all over itself.  Now it shows one of the extensions as existing on two PLIDs, the switch is all sorts of confused and apparently the only way out of this is a database restore.

So I'm here to ask you guys:  Is it Mitel's procedure now that when moving extensions of the same type, on the same switch, that you must completely delete them and recreate them manually?  (I say manually knowing full well I can export and import Multiline Key assignments, but you get my drift)  Swapping Pre-MCD 4 was easy peasy.  Swapping in Ops Man was easy peasy.  Why is swapping in MCD 6 not possible?  Moreover, why is it still a supported command?!

I wanted to assign my IP sets to a private network (192.168.1.x), but I continue to receive either an "Add gateway error" as a message on my 5360 IP phone or the thing just sits there and does nothing.

The deal is that my 3300 (MCD 4) is on a 10.x.x.x numbered address where 10.x.x.1 is the (external) gateway address.  If I program the 3300 for DHCP and set up small scope of available addresses in the 10.x.x.x, default all the settings in the IP Phone, it'll go out and get one of those addresses in scope, no problem.  If I, instead, set up a small scrope of 192.168.x.x adresses, default the phone...it will not connect.

Essentially what I'm attempting to do is have the controller provide the IP addresses to the phones, but not the 10.x.x.x range, as the scope I've been assigned, while it has some spare addresses, will dry up if I continue to add IP phones.  The IP phones in my network have no need to touch anything beyond the controller to which it is assigned...I'm trying to avoid getting the network guys involved as I'm thinking this can surely be done at the 3300 level.

I can provide more information if needed.  Thanks!

I'm currently working pretty closely with Mitel's pro services on moving our mid-sized Mitel 3300 network totaling just over 40 switches to "cluster"s.  The task right now is pretty daunting.  Our set-up was pretty basic, in fact, most of our 3300 MXEs replaced SX-2000 Light cabinets as their main control (the cabinets are still in place serving as peripheral nodes/DSU nodes).  Everything is and has been routed via ARS and most (certainly not all) of our COS/COR, FAC and other system forms have been fairly standardized over the years.  (I mention this as we do not currently utilize SDS, because some locations are just different from others)

We share a local exchange range (867-XXX-0000 thru 9999) with another entity and though its broken down into some blocks for us and some for them, we've been in business a long time and as you all are I'm sure quite aware over time logical ranges break down and a specific DID goes here, another goes there so on and so forth.  Basically what I'm getting at is YES our ARS is pretty daunting...(one trunking switch has 85 pages of the ARS Digits Dialed Assignment Form, and yes its pared down!)

I don't have any experience with Clusters or a clustered environment in general, so this project is a little daunting.  I'm having to assign telephone directory entries for each and every routed extension in my network which I'm dodging by typing this forum post  ;).  Can anyone here provide insight on experience with setting up, programming and using clusters?...specifically, how has it benefited you and have you had trouble with it?

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / MCD 4.0 E2T Reset w/ logs
« on: May 18, 2012, 02:00:35 PM »
Today we updated our 3300 with 20 SIP user licenses and have begun to play with them.  Everything was going fine for a few hours, I was THIIIIIS close to letting leadership play with it as I felt more and more comfortable with it.  Then we had an implosion:

Do any of you guys have any idea what happened above?

I can tell you that I was performing a test to see if my Bria Softphone (DN: 2780), installed on an iPhone and configured with multicall lines, could accept two calls (it can) and then merge them into a conference (nope).  The result was a transfer and not a conference using the softphone.  Instead of failing gracefully (if you want to call a failure that) and just not working, the 3300 looks like it was inundated with these requests resulting in the E2T crapping itself and rebooting.  Any input you guys can offer is greatly appreciated.

Here's the situation:

A call from one extension to another within the network (so far, this is the only example I have been given) the call will for no apparent reason abruptly end, no click, nothing on the screen, just stops cold and forces the caller to redial the extension and start over.

A basic layout of my network, and for this call in particular, is this (all switches are MCD 4.0: 10.0.2.8):

John ss4025 ext 1234 in SwitchA is calling Sue ss4025 ext 5678 in SwitchC.

SwitchA will send the call over IP trunks to SwitchB, which will then route the call over T1 to SwitchC.

That scenario will take place hundreds of time over the course of the day, but the failures will happen only "every now and then"  (I've only just had them start contacting me immediately when it happens, they consider it a minor annoyance, but I'd rather see it not happen at all).

The log files in either of the three switches aren't helpful and I don't see anything that immediately grabs me and nothing with the same time stamp as the call.  I'm capturing the diagnostic reports from all three and opening a ticket with Mitel, but you guys have any ideas of what I should/could be look at/for?  Naturally I'm eagerly anticipating the good ol' standby "upgrade to XXXXX" answer.  :)

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / "No Fax Detected" Fax over IP Trunks
« on: November 22, 2010, 10:42:34 AM »
I'm experiencing intermittent problems on my 3300 network.  Occassionally a fax machine will send and receive faxes fine, then all of a sudden it will just stop receiving faxes and instead get a "NO FAX DETECTED" message on the machine.

I've ensure my "Fax Configuration" form is using:

Profile #2:  Fax Rate:  14400 V.17 14400bps:  High Speed Redun 1:  Low Speed Redun 3:  ECM Disabled:  NSF Disabled:  NSF Vendor Code BLANK:  NSF Country Code BLANK:  Label  T.38

This "NO FAX DETECTED" error, while intermittent is prevalent in my network, as I have 35+ 3300s....with who knows how many fax machines off of each.  Anyone have anything on this issue?

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Accessing the 3300 via iPad
« on: November 19, 2010, 09:44:56 AM »

I know that Mitel is developing a solution to bring UC functionality to the iPad (and a few other devices).  "Mitel Freedom" I think its called.

Anyone know of a way to access the 3300 switch via the iPad?  Apparently the only browser that's supported for the 3300s' RTC is IE.  Of course, IE and iPad may as well oil and water.  Is anyone out there familiar with a method of accessing the 3300 through an iPad?  I realize java isn't supported either and likely plays a role.  Just tossing the questions out there.

After having difficulties reliably sending DTMF tones over IP trunks to another site, I have been asked to get packet captures at my trunking switch to "see if we can hear the DTMF tones clearly accross the IP trunks".  So on my trunking switch I have mirrored the LAN ports, turned off voice encryption, set up a laptop w/ Wireshark and captured a few different calls.  Now what?

I see a ton of packets and just knowing the sending and receiving IP addresses I can tell which call is mine, but I can't read these things anymore than that.  None of packets show me anything even remotely readable...moreover, all the packets are showing up as UDP....which makes sense I guess for voice transmissions, but I gotta think that'd probably not bode so well with DTMF strings (as they pretty much have to get where they are going and absolutely must be in order).  Anyone have any clue on how I can interpret these wireshark captures or how I can perhaps configure wireshark to spit out something that someone without an 'engineer' tag can read?
