jmarcwsp1,

... From what I heard though the Toshiba product was pretty solid.

Thanks,

Whats even better, is that my shop has a mix of Shoretel and Mitel....  wonder what "it" will look like when renewal time comes..

I tried that once, and then went to Mitel #2 and it balked at me.  Do all MCD's need to be at the same level?

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / External Hot Desk Usage
« on: April 13, 2017, 01:14:52 PM »
Can you use an External Hot desk license as a regular phone license?

My understanding of hot desk is that a user can "login" and "logout" of a phone, is that correct?

Thanks guys,

Ian

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Re: Wireshark or alternative
« on: February 01, 2017, 03:31:03 PM »
No one has built a better mousetrap than Wireshark yet.

I would ask your IT team to have a Wireshark Sniffer set to get data from the handset AND the SIP gateway.  Easiest way is a build a computer with 2 NICS and install Wireshark on it. Then plug the NIC's into different ports on a switch, then span the ports for the Gateway and the handset to the sniffer's ports and run Wireshark from there. The other helpful tip is to have the Phone and the Gateway on the same switch.

PCAP analysis is best done after you captured all the raw data.  Don't try to do it in real time.  So set your environment up, get your relevant IP's, and maybe run a few test Captures to see what your baseline traffic looks like.  Then get your problem child to make a call and run the PCAP at the same time.

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Re: LLDP Question
« on: January 25, 2017, 12:21:42 PM »
Virtual Trunking Protocol (VTP) shouldn't be in the discussion  ;) .  I know LLDP deals with Network Discovery, along the same lines of CDP. I may have described VTP, my point being is that I do not want either a Cisco Protocol (CDP) or an open-source Protocol (LLDP) telling my VoIP device which vLAN is which.

and v2win: it helps also when people move ports thinking they can without calling the Helpdesk first  ;D , that way when the port dies, and i can point out that they moved ports without telling IT they get very bashful.  I have sites in Utah, Idaho, etc, I can't just walk over and move the port back.

LLDP is cool to get you up and running when your in a time crunch, but if you have time, configure you switchports so you know what is where.  That also gives you a good time to document your switchports, so when things go belly up, you have a reference point of what should be where.

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Re: DHCP Configuration
« on: January 24, 2017, 10:36:56 AM »
Yes it did.  One thing I have noticed is the null statements that start off Opt 125, that seem to be the trick.  Since this, my Opt 125 Configs have been typed into that binary/hex/ascii using Hex.  By making the first 8 characters 00 00 04 03, I have had success with all types of phones registering.  Now if only the Paging adapters caught up, they are the bane of my existance.  Thanks for the help guys!

Mitel MiVoice Business/MCD/3300 / Re: MiVB 7.2 and BlueCat DHCP Server
« on: December 21, 2016, 07:32:45 PM »
The server type should not be an issue as DHCP is a defined protocol, not a private one.

As such try the following string:
....Tid:ipphone.mitel.com;sw_tftp=(CALL SERVER);call_srv=(CALL SERVER);vlan=900;l2p=6v6s6( could just try it as 6); dscp=46v46s26 (or try v46s46).

Also convert it to hex, making sure the .... is converted as NULL hex instead of 2E 2E.  NULL should be 00 00 04 03.  If that doesn't work i will run it thru the Option 125 converter and see if that makes a difference.

Also you only need to define Opt 43 and Opt 125 for the phones, it's the paging adapter that really needs all the fluff (stupid paging adapter).

Another thought is to flip DHCP to the 3300 and then you can definitely point the figure at the DHCP server being mis-configured.

Are you guys already dealers or partners with Mitel in some way??

How do you go about establishing that relationship? My boss and I are starting to look into doing the install and configuring ourselves.

Thanks,

Why do we think it is Java and not the music file type or any other issue?

What does your License page say?

Worse Case is you will find out in a month when your system goes into an alarm state for the unlicensed stuff.

Frankly, AD integration would be the most efficient way to do that. Set up your roles, assign a role and a DN to a new employee, and the rest is automatic once AD pushes the new user over to MiCollab or the MiVB.

Make sure you have the right licensing, software and hardware for this.  I still need to purchase the Premium Software Assurance package for every 3300 I have AND install a vMCD at my home office to achieve LDAP Functionality.  This is something my boss thought of after 15 standalone systems were put in, and our Channel "Partners" never seemed to want to mention it until I brought it up.
