Mitel 5000 Music On Hold
« on: November 30, 2016, 04:25:10 PM »
Hi,

We would like to use our Mitel 5000 to play some music on hold but utilizing a the music on hold port on the back of the phone server. From my understanding, we need a license to be added to the system for this option to become available. Can anyone advise as to what needs to be done for this to work?

Thank you!!

Depends, if you are going to do a file based MOH, then yes you need a  license. If you are going to use a device such as and mp3 player, then all you need is mono 3.5 mm jack. May have to splice cable depending the device you use. Also, MOH has to be turned on in the database programming under the CO Trunk group.

Thanks for the reply! I have the music playing, but the problem now is that some people have background music turned on. Is there a way to turn off background music (for everyone)? I also don't necessarily want music streaming to every handset we have...

Thanks again!

Background music on/off is feature code 313.  Don't know any other way to turn it off.

Thank you for the reply. If there is no way to turn background music off, would using file based music on hold be a better solution? I just want to provide music on hold, not background music.

I appreciate all the help.

File Based MOH can't be used for Background Music, so that solution would work.

You can turn it off for all from within database programming.  Go to SYSTEM/PHONE RELATED INFO/FLAGS and you'll see a list of features but BACKGROUND MUSIC isn't there.  Click on VIEW at the top left of screen.  Click on ONLINE MONITOR.  You'll see warning, but you're only going to touch the music so ignore it.  When you turn on ONLINE MONITOR you'll see the feature BACKGROUND MUSIC...remove all users from the list.  Turn off ONLINE MONITOR.
