Voice quality degraded
« on: May 11, 2017, 03:01:47 PM »
I have a 3300 in one of our office that has sporadic voice quality issues.  Our employee has trouble hearing the other end, the voice becomes digitized.  It was described as robotic.

Contacted the provider for our PRI and they said they see slips on the PBX.  I scheduled a reboot, and they are still having the issue.

If I run a dtstat on PRI I see no timing slips (see below)

Any thoughts what could be going on here?
Any suggestions?

Thanks

Evan

Could be a DSP issue. Anything in the logs? or could be a exchange fault. Have you got a PRI tester to run a full test on the link?

Also is the issue happening in the timeframe for the DTSTAT you posted?

We had one where it would show clean until the weather turned bad enough to put water in the conduit where the feeder cable is and shorted out few pairs.

Yes in the time frame.

Unfortunately I am off site so I cannot test the PRI.  I am also a Systems engineer "server guy", I wouldn't even know how to test the PRI.  haha

WHat should I be looking for in the logs?  I am not seeing any errors, just a bunch of Call Control - software Swerr range check errors as warnings.

Can you be a bit more specific on the errors Cut and paste them if you can?

just heard back from our provider.  Here is their reply:

The customer PRI is not set to take it’s timing from the network. To prove this, I placed a loop at the smartjack for this customer. I left the loop in place and normalized the circuit.

As you can see in red, errored seconds and controlled slipped seconds are in equal increments, indicating the timing issue. With the smart jack looped and the customer equipment out of the equation, those errors cleared, indicated in green. This proves, definitively that the source of the errors is the CPE.

The CPE vendor will need to set the PRI card to take its timing from the network to resolve the issue.

TIME   CI  FI  END  ES     SES    SEFS   UAS    CSS
     ----   --  --  ---  65     10     2      10     12
     --------------------- ERROR COUNTS ----------------------
     21:30          NE   0      0      0      0      0
     21:15          NE   0      0      0      0      0
     21:00          NE   0      0      0      0      0
     20:45      *   NE   5      2      2      0      3
     20:30          NE   21     0      0      0      21
     20:15          NE   20     0      0      0      20
     20:00          NE   21     0      0      0      21
     19:45          NE   20     0      0      0      20

How can I fix this?  Is it complicated?  If so I can call Mitel for support.

Thanks

-Evan

In the network synchronization form you reference the PRI.
If you enter the command Net Status (I think that's the command, doing this from memory) it will show you what PRI source clock your syncing to.  Otherwise it will tell you its the master.

Under my network sync form there were no entries.  If I  ran NETSYN STATE it said not available for master switch.

I added our PRI 3 1 2 1 to the Network Sync form then ran the NETSYNC STATE command and now have :

     |  Sync Source     |   Sync Source
 No. |    Location      |      Status
-----+------------------+------------------
  1  |  3  1  2  1      |   sync source

I hope this resolves our timing issues.

Thanks!
