Mitel 5000 – Replace 5320 w/5320

I’ve been reading through the forums and think I know what I need to do to replace a broken 5320 but want to make sure I have the steps right.  I would greatly appreciate your input.

Part I
1.   Open DB Programmer
2.   Go to System\Devices & Feature Codes\Phones and pick the local group
3.   Go to the extension to be replaced
4.   Right click on the extension
5.   Select “Clear Pin Registration”

Part II
1.   Connect new phone
2.   Pin with the existing extension number

My question, if all of the above is correct, will the new phone inherit the old phones setup, e.g., system speed dials, button mapping, name, etc.…?

And you don't need to clear PIN registration if the new phone isn't already assigned to a different local extension and old phone is off-line...just plug it in, it'll ask for extension, dial ### (default REPLACE code) and extension.  Then press HOLD to send.

Reading the OP's method, I feel like an idiot... I have always done it the "old fashioned" way, go to System\Devices & Feature Codes\Phones\Local\[EXT#]\IP Settings\Network Configuration and right-click on MAC Address and select Clear, then repin the phone. Guess you learn something everyday.

Everyone,

Just keep in mind that the Replace code [###] is turned off by default and may not work or it may be turned on and changed to something different.

To ensure that the [###] code is correct and turned on then go to: System > Phone-Related Information

At the main level of this folder you will see two things that let you know if it is on and what it is set to.

Enable PIN Replacement: Yes [Default=No]
Access Code for PIN Replacement = ### [Default]

If it is turned on and ### is set then dwayneg's post would be correct in that you just need to ensure that the original phone is unplugged from the network and when it asks for a PIN then just use ### along with the extension number and then the red hold button will change the MAC Address from the old phone's to the new one.

For example of the extension number was 1002 then the dial string would be ###1002[Hold]. The phone will perform a reboot and come up and 1002 as long as the original phone is unplugged from the network.

If I know the MAC address of the replacement phone I always just replace the MAC under IP Settings the phone i'm replacing.

No PIN numbers invloved at all, definitely the best way if it's a self install by the customer / user as if the DHCP options are configured correctly or I've had the System IP / TFTP configured beforehand the phone just works.

Everyone, thank you for your input!

The new phone has not been assigned a local extension.
Ensure Replace code is setup accordingly.  My findings are as follow:
  a) Enable Pin Reg = Yes
  b) Access Code for Pin Reg = ***

With the old phone offline the following will take place.
1. Connect new phone
2. When asked for Pin, enter ***Extension (no space between * and extension)
3. Press red Hold button

Project complete

First I want to say thank you to everyone who responded.  For the sake of anyone who might run across this in the future, I wanted to follow-up with how it went in my case.  There were two options offered, my initial process and then one by NTEDave.  NTEDave had the most ideal option in my case and it goes as follow:

Part I
   1. Disconnect phone to be replaced
   2. Open DB Programmer
   3. Go to System\Devices & Feature Codes\Phone\Local (appropriate group)
   4. Double click on the extension to replace
   5. Double click on IP Settings
   6. Double click on Network Configuration
   7. Right click on MAC Address and clear
   8. Enter new phone MAC Address

Part II
   1. With old phone offline
   2. Connect new phone
   3. Should open with extension and settings (it does and it was awesome)

I have 17 locations and if all we're doing is replacing a phone four hours away, this is the way to go.  My only challenge is if the end user can't assemble the phone and reconnect the handset and network cable.  I'm 100% confident I can talk them through this and therefore confident this is better than the cost of travel.
