Benefits of Clustering
« on: July 12, 2016, 12:23:54 PM »
All,

I have a bunch of 3300 ICP's spread around the Pacific NW.  They are not clustered currently, but what is the benefit of clustering?

Also is it practical to get a copy of the 3300 software, and then make it a VM, and then cluster it with other sites?  Or do I need to get an actual MX or CX chassis?

Thanks

You'd want to cluster your systems because it makes moving phones around really easy.
It also allows hot desk users to move around between systems.

Without clustering you need to set up ARS for specific number ranges to each site.
With Clustering it's taken care of automatically.

Regarding your VM question, if you're not converting then you simply load the OVA and then license it.
If you're converting a physical then you need a conversion license, load the OVA, license it, turn off the physical box and restore it's database into the VM.   (You'd need to remove any TDM devices & trunks prior to the backup)
