New teleworker phones all look for DHCP option 129
« on: April 13, 2016, 07:55:12 PM »
Hello All,

I'm a bit new to the Mitel world, so please excuse my ignorance. We've had this Mitel system installed for a few months now. Existing teleworker phones (5320 IP phones) have been working fine. We recently got a batch of new "teleworker" phones from our provider. When hooking them up to an outside network, it keeps looking for option DHCP option 129. Now, our internal Windows DHCP server has option 129 programmed in, but that is not an option for our teleworkers as their home modem/router combos do not have that option.

Our provider has recently changed hands and the new staff is unable to program the phones as the previous staff did. As a result, all of the newly programmed teleworker phones all look for a DHCP option 129. We have tried the reset procedure they outlined for us with no joy. They are simply out of ideas. If someone can point us in the right direction, my sanity would greatly appreciate it. Heck, I'll even PayPal whoever can help us find the solution a pint of beer.  ;)

Cheers!

Have they hard-coded the Teleworker IP onto the phones? (Done by holding the 9 key as the phone boots up, and then following the menu prompts.)

If they're truly Teleworker Phones then you'd be pointing them to a specific server.
The way to do that is to boot while holding the 9 key and put in the IP address of your TW server.
Then it won't ask for any of the options.

I thought Teleworker mode was holding the 7 while booting the phone.

I thought Teleworker mode was holding the 7 while booting the phone.
That's how I always do it, never used 9

My apologizes.  You are correct.
It's the 7 key.
I must have been overly tired when I wrote that.

I would default them, then put in the teleworker as described (holding 7 down)

Maybe they can't find a local DHCP server? causing them to look for one that has the required settings for a local boot? Teleworker mode only looks to get a local address to be able to access the internet.
