Is there a way to change the hostname (?) for each IP phone?
« on: March 21, 2016, 12:36:30 PM »
Our IT dept is wanting to be able to see which IP phone in our system is using a given IP address.  So when they are seeing a list of devices on the network, they can identify what they are.  I have looked and looked, and cannot find a way to do this.  All IP phones on our system are using DHCP, and they are mostly 5330 and 5340 phones.  The IT dept doesn't really have access to our PBX, so they can't just reference the information in the system administrator.  Does anyone have any way to give an IP phone a hostname?

There isn't a way to see it via host name or DHCP, but depending on the type of switches you have, LLDP and CDP can give the extension information.
