3300 System reception consoles when power outage
« on: May 13, 2010, 05:23:52 AM »
Hi,

I have a query regarding a power outage. Our building is going to lose power for 15mins. The network switches are are all POE and on a UPS as is the phone system. This will allow the phones and phone system to stay up for this duration however the reception consoles connect to PC's that will lose there power so receptionists wont have access to application on these machines.

Is there a quick solution to keep the receptionist up and running. I thought about switching them to a laptop for the time being but i dont have the console software. Is there a better solution?

Thanks in advance

How about a long power cord to the same UPS your 3300's are on?
A laptop would also work.   Or, route the calls to a 5340 in Night 2 mode while the console is down.

Thanks Ralph,

Could I route the calls to a 5312 or 5324 handset that is up and running still whilst mains power is down? This is a planned outage so could be in place beforehand. Could it work if the power just went completely un- announced?

Our main advertised building number ends in 500 the 2 reception phones are ext 501 and 502. If you could explain what i would need to do that would be great.

You can reroute to any dial-able number.   You may want to create several multicall keys on the phone so you can handle multiple lines ringing in.   Not something you want to do permanently but it will work fine for a power outage.
