Need help with short-code?
« on: April 08, 2015, 03:47:50 AM »
Hello everyone,

Newbie here..

I am trying to manage our Mitel CX 3300 PBX and I want to be able to apply a shortcode of a specific outgoing number.. is this doable? If so how?

Currently I am able to call outside by setting ARS Digits Dialed to 9123456

Can I assign, for example, dial 8 instead of having to input 9123456?

How can I do this?

Please help...

Thanks in advance!

System speed calls; actual number is 912345678 and speed call number is whatever you want but not sure if its a good idea for single digits to be used. Usually speed calls are the same number of digit length as your extension numbers. You can use shorter ones but then you have inter digit timer problems that can be overcome by dialing # at the end of the number but I find that customers find that counter intuitive.

Thanks x-man for your response, but this may not be what I'm looking for. To elaborate, what I actually want to achieve is this. I wanted to shorten the number 912345 so that i won't have to input a long number when dialling. This is actually a international call. So basically, what i need to do is dial 9 + 12345 + 00 + country code + destination number. So basically what I wanted is to assign a shortcode to 9 + 12345 to something like 8 for example so if then would be able to use 8 + 00 + country code + destination number....

I hope i didn't confuse you...  ;D

I think X-man gave you the correct info.
You're looking for system speed calls.
Create a speed dial number of 91234 with the actual of 8+<rest of number>

one more question... can i restrict calls from this? that is.. insert a passcode after dialing the short cut? so it would be 8 + passcode + rest of number. if without passcode access will be denied....

thanks...

Not directley because the system dials the numbers so they would be in the shortcode. You may be able to fudge something with account codes but not really sure how...

Are you asking if you can stop people from dialing the speed dial number (short code)?
Or are you asking that if once they dial it, the carrier will ask for a code and the speed dial will include that code?

Yes, most likely. I wanted to prevent some people from using the service. Just like IDD dialling, callers are denied to call International without their passcode. With IDD, we dial *11 then entering the passcode. If passcode is accepted, then caller is allowed to dial international. I don't know how to do this with the shortcode. Perhaps there's no easy way to do it (as x-man says)...  :)

From your description of how you use the pass codes, I think if when you create the system speed call entry you tick the "over ride toll restriction" then you will not be required to enter a pin number.
