Upgrade path for Win 2000/2003 servers
« on: December 11, 2014, 09:46:27 AM »
I saw a little discussion about possible updates to the EOL Win2K platforms used on the 5000 system. Has there been any updates to that situation? I'm getting pressured by our IT folks to get the systems updated to a supported OS.
Thanks

Markhenry,

What platform are you talking about? If it is the EM then there isn't one as it is no longer supported.

Thanks,

TE

We have:
VPU- Version 11.101 on Win2k connected to the ATM switch (Fore 200 BX) and the CPS
CPS server on Win2k3 that is connected to the CP via serial cables.
Inter-tel Data manager and Contact Center Monitor on a Win2k3
Can't give you too much detail on the CPS and VPU since I haven't found the logins yet...

Markhenry,

With the terminology that you are using I would say that you have an Axxess system and not a 5000 system. The CPS was replaced by the PS-1, a Linux based server. I am not sure what you mean by serial cable connections off of the CPS as it always used IP for that connection, but you may be looking at the VPU[EM] that has a serial cable "look" to it that connects to the a CPC or CPU in the Axxess Cabinet and those servers can look similar. If I am correct that it is an Axxess then it is no longer supported for upgrades to newer versions of software and therefore newer servers and OSs.

To give a little history here the Axxess was replaced by the CS-5000 series platform that came in three version:
1. CS-5200 the base system
2. CS-5400 a PEM [Processor Expansion Module] is added to the Processor Module of the CS-5200
3. CS-5600 a PS-1 [Processing Server] is added as a seperate server to communicate with a CS-5400, which means that you had to upgrade the CS-5200 to a CS-5400 and then add the PS-1.

Now, we have the HX-5000 series platform which follows all the same rules as above, but they are no longer designated as 5200, 5400, or 5600 even though some installers may still use that terminology to differentiate the type of hardware used when talking to one another. The most obvious difference in the two is the form factor used for the base system, as well as the cards that fit into the cabinets, but the expansion cabinets called DEIs and the PS-1 are still the same.

As for the Inter-Tel Data Manager and Contact Center Manager those can be upgraded to the latest versions and put on a new server, although it is no longer call Contact Center Manager.

Thanks,

TE

Markhenry,

Not a problem, glad to help. It would be best to get off of the Axxess Platform in the near future if you are looking to get rid of the old technology. The great thing is that the 5000 series of platforms program almost exactly the same as the Axxess and the phones that work on the Axxess work on the 5000. This way all you need to do is change out your Axxess to the 5000 and keep your phones and then slowly swap them out so it reduces your upfront costs.

Of course the best solution is to replace everything and start over and your Axxess database can be converted to the 5000, but it also give you a starting point to make changes that help your company's processes instead of working around the technology that you have today.

Good Luck,

TE

Your IT folks might also like the fact that everything except the HX chassis and PS1 server can live in VMware. Individual servers for each application are no longer needed.

Would we be able to retain any of the core hardware (linecards, T-1/PRI cards etc.)?
I'll follow up with Mitel to get them started on producing a migration plan for us...
Thanks again all,
Mark

The HX controller is a different platform than the Axxess system; hardware is completely different. Phones are compatible and programming looks and feels pretty much the same.
