Call Forward Always and forwarder/forwardee mailboxes

Scenario:
All extensions have a system forwarding path enabled to voicemail. User goes on holiday, sets Forward Always to another extension.

The problem, as the customer sees it, is that voicemails end up in the forwarders mailbox rather than the forwardees [this runs contrary to *every* other phone system install I've done, but hey, the customer's always right...].

I can think of solutions involving creating new system forwarding paths to route the calls as the way they've asked, but the users want to be able to do this ad-hoc, ie just by pressing a key. Multiple other solutions have been floated, eg voicemail to email, but they want what they've asked for and nothing else.

Are they already using DND?  If not, you could build a bunch of unique SYS FWD paths, one per ext, invoked only when DND is on.  If they only have a few fwd destinations you'll need only one path per destination.

Otherwise the only solution is incredibly complicated: build a phantom for each ext, sys fwd to ring desired ext then ring new CRA that sends call to original mbox.

Odd,  manually forwarded calls should never route to any voice mail. Manual forwarding negates any system forwarding in effect.
