Network Congestion on IP/XNET
« on: July 21, 2014, 03:21:17 PM »
Our system reports network congestion on a route that points to IP/XNET trunk group.  I thought it only reports congestion on TDM trunks?

Traffic report only shows trunk and trunk groups of TDM trunks.  Bandwidth utilization report on the network does not show high usage either.  Is there a way to troubleshoot network congestion on IP/XNET trunks?

I believe that Network Congestion reports only happen when all trunks are busy (ATB).
Check to see how many simultaneous calls you have configured for that trunk group.  You may just simply have to up it.

There's 10 simultaneous calls allowed, but in actuality, 20 is allowed since it can overflow to the resilient controller.  It is also setup with 10 simultaneous calls.

These are the tests I did to try and simulate a network congestion alarm:  Remember: These tests are on IP/XNET trunks.

1) Changed bandwidth setting under network topology to 1Kb.  I got a busy tone on both incoming/outgoing calls.

2) Chanaged bandwidth back to normal. Changed the number of simultaneous calls to 1 under ICP/PBX under ICP/PBX Networking.  I was able to make many simultaneous incoming/outgoing calls.

In both tests, the system did not generate a network congestion alarm.  It leads me to believe that this alarm only applies to TDM trunks and not IP/XNET trunks.

Here's the alarm...

Maintenance   1735   Warning   2014/Jul/22   18:03:15   Call Control - Maintenance   TRAFFIC CONGESTION REPORT  FROM  13 : 58 TO  18 : 03 No trunks available : (Route ID # : Total)   26 : 02    Main   Maintenance;0

Route 26 is an IP/XNET routing medium with Compression = ON.

Ok.  That says that from 1:58PM to 6:03PM on route 26 you had no trunks available when someone tried to access it 2 times.

Check the trunks on route 26.  2 busies in 4 hours isn't bad but if these are xnet trunks then it should be pretty easy to add.
