Remote office phone Setup
« on: June 11, 2014, 09:28:42 AM »
We have a remote office that has 3 phone in it now.  WE are trying to add a 4th and everything looks like it's setup correctly but we are getting the option 128 missing message.  When we look at the other phones, none of them say they are on DHCP but yet there is no static IP assigned either. Can anyone give me a little push on how to get this setup correctly?  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!

Perry

Is this over a VPN? or MBG?

When we try to hold down 7 during a reboot it doesn't ask us for Teleworker.  should it?  It goes right into the config.  WE have a netro E connection to this office over a certain VLAN

Factory default that phone using Tools and Features, restore defaults. Then, while it is rebooting, hold down the 7 and see if you can input the info.

Do we need to setup teleworker if this is on our network?  That office is on our network just a separate VLAN.

On a VPN you shouldn't need to set up teleworker I don't believe. is the voice vlan different to the data vlan?

Vlan is different.  The other phones are working fine but this new one is giving us option 128 missing.  Switch ports are fine vlan settings are correct.  We tried is a known good port adn stil get teh same message.

My guess is someone hardcoded the VLAN or some other setting in the old phones instead of setting up the DHCP options.

Yup, can't find its way to the DHCP server.

Here is an update...We brought the phone back to the main office and tried to set it up and it works fine here.  What we are puzzled about now is why the other phones in the remote office are working.

The phone can't fins its way back to the dhcp server at the main office. So there is no fixed route over the vpn that the phone can use and therefore it can't start. When you use teleworker you can tell it where to look for the server so i suspect like V2win that there is a bodge in place somehwere on the phones. It may well be to do with the vlan if the mitel is set to do dchp for the phones. You will have to find a way to tell the phone where the server is...teleworker does that. Just put the address of the mitel in the teleworker settings. But it does depend on how the vlans are configured....

Phones require access to a dhcp server of some sort to start.

I guess we can try the telelworker idea.  Does it matter what type of phone it is?  These are teh 5304 IP phones.  What would explain the other phones in the remote office working just fine???
