Long shot but what the heck
« on: July 08, 2009, 11:32:10 PM »
Hi all, I'm a huge fan of Mitel gear and was given an SX-20 MXe controller.  I've got a couple IP phones setup in my appartment and all works like a charm.

The question I pose is, is there a way to get some sort of <insert gizmo here> to connect the controller to the outside world via a cable phone or VoIP or some other means other than BRI/PRI methods?

Yes, I know its way overkill for a "just for fun" application, but I am quite the geek and think it would slick to have the controller handling calls.

! other thing that has boggled me is how do i generate a "report" of all the MOSS festures etc the controller has?

Thanks muchly!

Jim

Hi Jim,
What you can do is order a Vonage line, (I use Packet8) and then connect it as an analog port to your 200.

As for the Moss Sheet,  all you can do is look in the system options form.

Hi, thank you very much for the reply.

The controller does have 1 amphenol connector on the back, I am assuming this is so I can connect it to a "bay".

I am suspecting the bay would need to have at least one ONS card in it?

I am guessing that the line coming in either thru vonage or the local telco would be a POTS line?

And in programming this, does it programmed in the trunking or just treated as a set?

Thanks for you help!!

Jim

Vonage would consider the line same as a POTS line.   You treat the line as a trunk.

Hi and thank you for your reply.  Just a bit of clarity is what I need. Just so I'm on the same page, I would need to program a ONS card with and extension?

And I'm not totally up on the trunk stuff, So in form 16 (Trunk Groups) I would then attach bb/ss/cc to the pots line?

Thanks again!

I believe the Amphenol connector is simply ONS / LS trunks - 24 of them.  Sorry I'm not up on programming a 200 to use them so I'll leave that to the experts.. :)

Hi, yes you are correct, and if I'm hearing him right, I'll need to define a ONS circuit to be analog and then program it as a trunk.

I just picked up a bay from ebay today for 80 bux with the power supply, 4 12 cct digital cards, the FIM carrier thing, and 2 ONS cards this should give me enough artillery to make this work :)

Ok, bit of news, the amphenol connector on the back of the SX200 ICP MX actually contains:

Table 69: SX-200 ICP, Onboard Analog/DNIC
Tip & Ring Assignments (Back Panel Amphenol Connector)
Pins Pairs Circuit type Bay/Slot/
Circuit Comments
1/26 W-BL / BL-W ONS/CLASS 1/13/3 Default Extension #: 200
2/27 W-O / O-W ONS/CLASS 1/13/4 Default Extension #: 201
3/28 W-G / G-W ONS/CLASS 1/13/5 Available as upgrade option
4/29 W-BR / BR-W ONS/CLASS 1/13/6 Available as upgrade option
5/30 NOT USED
6/31 R-BL / BL-R DNIC 1/13/1 Subattendant Default Extension #: 199
7/32 R-O / O-R DNIC 1/13/2 SUPERCONSOLE 1000 Default Extension #: 198
8/33 - 10/35 NOT USED
11/36 - 16/41 BK-BL / BL-BK LS/CLASS 1/13/7 - 1/13/12
Trunks circuits 1/13/7 and 1/13/8 are System Fail Transfer trunks. They connect to ONS circuits 1/13/3 and 4 respectively.
17/42 - 22/47 Y-O / O-Y LS/CLASS 1/13/13 - 1/13/18
Available as upgrade option
48/23 - 50/25 NOT USED

So it looks like I need no external hardware at all.  Of course that go with Murphy's Law, as i just bought a bay and 2 LS/GS cards :)
But just to be sure the LS/CLASS circuit will let me attack a POTS to it?

Thanks!

Jim

Ok, at first was not going to the key system route, but as things went on it just sort of lead me there.

So with all the help received, I now have a SX200 accepting and dialing on my shaw cable phone and leaving msgs to my ext.
My g/f has her magicjack trunk also functioning and leaving msgs to her ext
And just for fun, I hooked up the front door intercom, now if i'm not at home, people can leave a message.

At some point I'm going to have to get my hands dirty and get into the ARS stuff to make it a PBX system but for now this is working out quite well

Thanks again all!!

Jim

If you get into ARS just be thankful you do not have an employer who makes you put a digit string for every dialing prefix in your local calling area.
