Everyone,
I figure I would put this out there in case anyone else runs into this situation when upgrading a system to 6.0 and setting up DHCP or just setting up the DHCP Server in general.
After an upgrade from 5.0 to 6.0 PR 5 a technician was setting up the DHCP Server in the 5000 to hand out leases to the just the IP Phones. When they went to set up the DHCP Server it came up with nothing in the Name and the Client's Vendor Name Must Match Name was set to No. So what they did was set up the range as normal and changed the Client's Vendor Name Must Match Name to Yes to ensure that only the phones would get a response from the DHCP server. I removed the DHCP Helper from the switches since it was no longer needed as the phones got LLDP that put them on the correct VLAN, and they said the phones would not get an address. After 10 minutes of looking around in the switch and then looking at how they set up the DHCP server it dawned on me that they didn't put the
ipphone.mitel.com in the Name Value Field. As soon as that was done and the DHCP server was turned back on the phones came up and started downloading their software as expected.
Apparently on an upgrade the DHCP server is not set up correctly by default so it just goes to show you that sometimes the little things do get you in the end and since the technician was used to that value being in the name field they didn't know it was needed.
Thanks,
TE
