Mitel 5000 new 8568 phone
« on: October 31, 2013, 12:36:07 PM »
I have added 3 8568 phones to a system that has been in for a little over a year.  They are working fine, until someone tries to use the handsfree.  When they press any button initially with the handset on hook the buzz volume is super loud, whether you are trying to dial out, scrolling through the menu, or checking voice mail.  I have tried to turn the volume down on everything, and nothing changes.  Any help would be appreciated.

That is a firmware issue on the phone. It has been corrected, but the system will need to be upgraded for the correction.

Would anyone know what the steps are upgrading the firmware on a Mitel 5000?

Download the latest release from Mitel Online, put the unzipped folder in a USB flash drive, insert flash drive in the front USB port, go through LCD navigation to System > Upgrade. Or, you'll have to set up a TFTP server, put unzipped folder in the TFTP folder, log in to the web portal of the 5000, go to Upgrade and Uploads, enter TFTP server IP address and play with the syntax of the path until it actually works. USB method is the easiest way.

Remember that if you do this to stay within your release stream, so any 5.1 to any 5.1 release is OK... if you actually upgrade releases, like are at 5.0 and want to go to 5.1 or 6.0 release, you must update your AMC record and obtain a license key.

I also have a tendency to avoid the USB method of updating... I have had issues more than once were it failed and once were a CF card was corrupted and had to be replaced. The TFTP method is quite simple once you do it once or twice and it has never failed me. Do not try to do it across the Internet, even via a VPN, if at all possible... TFTP across the Internet can be very, very slow.

Also, Mitel's website rarely contains the latest firmware... if you are having issues that are likely software related, always contact tech so they can point you to the latest builds on the Intertel Tech Support FTP site.
