Softphone for Windows Mobile
opaljoe:
Hi I am trying to find a softphone that will install on Windows Mobile 5 that will connect to a 3300 via WiFi as a Sip device.
We have Your Assistant softphones working on some desktops and have tried x-lite on some laptops.
I have tried Fring but Can't get it to register to the system.
Anything else to try????
Thanks
Joe

This is a great question!
One I've thought about but since I don't have a cell that do such fun things, I've never tried it.
It has some great potential. Wander into a hot spot and you can not make/receive calls from your SIP enabled device. Mitel is attempting to address such issues with their mobility and Personal ring groups but it still burns minutes on your cell. A SIP softphone wouldn't.
If you find something that works, please let us know what it was.

After speaking to Mitel Pre-sales they have advised the only supported method is to use Mobile Extension Client. Luckily the customer who sent us the request already has Mobile Extension installed so it will only be the cost of the client license.
This was the answer I was expecting from Mitel to be honest but there must be some software available for Windows Mobile 5.

Quick question, when the tests were done on the laptop were they using wifi or were they connected directly to the lan.

They were connected directly to the LAN. It was just a quick test to see if I could get a generic SIP softphone to work on the 3300. Didn't think about trying it via wireless. Will try it now.
