Prevent users from dialing full DID numbers for internal calls...
« on: September 18, 2013, 10:22:09 PM »
Several users are dialing 9 plus the full 10 digit phone number instead of the last 4 digits tying up 2 PRI channels at the same time.

How can I redirect the DID numbers that they are dialing to the 4 digit extensions to prevent 2 PRI channels from being used?

Example DID: 123-456-2637
Example Extension: 2637
Example of how they are dialing: 91234562637

Some DIDs and extensions are sequential and some aren't. For example, 123-456-2636 and 123-456-2639 belong to another company.  123-787-2611, 123-456-2637 and 123-456-2638 are on the phone system.

I wish telling them that just dialing 4 digits or blocking those number from dialing out would solve the problem, but that actually causes more headache than it's worth!

Thanks in advance!

Create a loop back IP trunk (an IP trunk that points to the same controller) then route the calls through it 1st.
Use digit mode to strip all the digits except the last 4.

Would a system speed call 91XXX-XXX-2637 to 2637 still grab the PRI? Just thinking.

My bad....it only lets you put in 7 digits for the first entry. Never mind.

Ralph, can you give me a little bit more detail when it comes to creating a loop back IP trunk?

Thanks.

I need to create a doc on how to do that.  It's a really useful tool.
I'm almost thinking that when a system is installed you should program up one by default.

But,
From a doc from MOL entitled "Routing 911 to more than 6 Analog Gateways" here's the relevant paragraph:
Quote
Programming Steps on the main 3300 system:
Step 1: Create a virtual loop back IP trunk
--In IP/Xnet Trunk Group Assignment, create a new Xnet Trunk group 10 and assign the local PBX /main 3300 system number in the field of PBX number. Enter the local profile number, max networks hops as one would normally do on a regular IP trunk.
--In route assignment, select a new route number 20 and enter 10 in the field of Xnet trunk group number and 10 in the field of digit modification number.

Hmm...I just tried and when I click on "IP/XNET Trunk Groups," it tells me that the "Appropriate feature has not been purchased."  :(

Why not just use ARS to either strip the unnecessary leading digits or block the calls, forcing the users to dial the extensions the right way?

That tells me you only have one system in the network.
Unfortunately I don't have a work around for that.

You can do this using System Speeddials. But this is .............. :'(
Lets say your office number is 90123456789 then 6789 are your DID range.
Add a Speed Dial 9012345 to 8888. Add a second Speed Dial that has 88886 to 6. Again they should not do these kind of loop dialling.
An other option is barring the external number in ARS :)

There's something I've never tried.  Thanks for the tip.
