3300 ICP; one extension cannot dial externally
« on: September 17, 2013, 09:34:45 AM »
Hi all,

I have a Mitel 3300 ICP. I have one pesky handset (5312 IP) that, when you dial an external number, flashes the "INVALID" code when the number is dialed to completion. Other handsets on the same system do not have the issue.

This is one of the few extensions that does not have a DID.

Any ideas where I can look to sort this out? I've poured through "all forms" all morning without any luck.

Thank you!

Here are the things I can think of:

1- Make sure COS is the same as the others.

2- Make sure COR is the same as the others.

3- In as much as it isn't a DID, could the carrier be blocking toll free?

If anyone else wants to chime in, please do.

Thanks JRG - unfortunately that wasn't it - CORs and COSs are the same as my extension (same handset model/office location).

General update to my issue: looks like this phone isn't dialing externally at all (I was going off of a user report before) - not local, not long distance, not toll free.

Since this isn't a DID extension I suspect that your carrier is blocking it.  That's why you can get the entire number out before you get the 'invalid'.

Try this:  Go the the Associated Directory Number form, Click Add.  In the directory number field put the extension number of the phone with the issue.  In the drop down select CPN Substitution.   In the associated number field put in a valid DID.  It should look something like this: "8005551212" (I'd recommend your main number as long as it's a DID and not a POTS.)   Next test out bound calls again.

If I'm correct you'll be able to dial out now.

Do you dial 9 or 0 before the call? Is the phone sending these digits as DTMF?Check via maintenance commands (sorry can't remember the command to do it)

X-man are you asking them to do a CCS Trace to see if the phone is sending all the digits as expected?

"CCS Trace Enable Continuous" will display all kinds of stuff on the screen, helpful if you know what you are looking at.
"CCS Trace Disable" to turn it off.

I would put money on the carrier blocking it, although I would expect non-DIDs to send out the BTN.

SIP trunks?

Another thing. If this is set up as device only you will only be able to call internal and 911.

Thanks for all the advice everybody. I tried the CPN Substitution and had no luck, same issue. I ran the CCS trance and here's what I got back (for privacy, the number i was dialing is changed to 5555555555, the directory number is now 3333, and the CPN number is 3333333333:

CCS Tracing is enabled for continuous output display
16:54:24 RO121 DPN 23 ISRM_I  ;10;*1#*50*3333#*100*F.Conf Rm#*19*Z#

16:54:25 RI121 DPN 17 CRM/CIM ;0;*166*1 2 3 4#*234*@P#

Here it is again with the CPN substitution turned on:

CCS Tracing is enabled for continuous output display
17:03:57 RO120 DPN 21 ISRM_I  ;10;*1#*50*3333#*251*rP*3333333333#

17:03:57 RI120 DPN 7  NIM     *51*3#
17:03:57 RI120 DPN 17 CRM/CIM ;0;*166*1 2 3 4#*234*@P#

Here is the same call from a phone that's working properly:

17:04:21 RO120 DPN 22 ISRM_I  ;10;*1#*50*3333#*100*G.Coffey#*19*Z#
17:04:21 RO120 DPN 2C SSRM_C  *58*CW*YDd@@@@@C;7F;NGhP#*58*C6*001#5555555555
17:04:21 RI120 DPN 7  NIM     *51*3#
17:04:23 RI120 DPN F  NIM     *4*4#*240*`X`#
17:04:23 RI120 DPN 13 NAM     *4*4#*166*1 2 3 4#
17:04:23 RI120 DPN A  CCM     *58*CP*G#

JRG - I'm not sure what device only means - can you please clarify?

Thanks again, all.

I was referencing my note on this clear down.   I couldn't find the cause code of ";0;".

The call is obviously being rejected by the carrier but I don't know why.
You can call them and have them do a trace to see why it's being rejected.

When you turned on CPN substitution did you use a known good DID?

You can make a station "Device Only" and it does not require a license. The down side is you are limited to internal and 911 dialing only. Generally used as a base to hotdesk to, or perhaps an elevator/entrance phone. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't programmed as such.

SOLVED
« Reply #10 on: September 19, 2013, 01:03:47 PM »
I worked with my service provider to troubleshoot the issue - despite the CPN substitution, the provider kept trying to use the phone's extension (for which we don't have the DID). Because the provider interpreted the call as coming from a phone number we do not own, it rejected any call. I have since played musical phones to put valid extensions on, and all is working.

Thank you to everybody for trying to help me with this!
