UCA Contacts lost

Running the latest version of UCA and I have had two users who have lost all of their contacts that they inputted.  The group names are still there, but nothing listed under them.  What would cause them to just disappear?  I cannot seem to get them back.

Are the contacts stored on the server or are they in the UC folder under the users Roaming directory?

How can I get them back, is it safe for the user to recreate the contacts?

I saw something similar in UCA console after a migration from UCA 5.0 to 5.1.

Had to delete a .dat file (I can't remeber!) in the Roaming Directory. BTW, all "custom" parameters are there (and not on the server).

from what I have experienced, yes, it's safe to delete contacts.
