Cisco 7960 SIP to Mitel 3300

(1/2) > >>

ralph:
Earlier I pinged this forum to see if anyone had connected a 7960 to a 3300.
Finally got it.
Mitel published a "How To" last week.   Pretty straight forward if you know about setting up TFTP servers and such.
It works.  You can make, receive calls, put calls on hold, xfer.
Lots of limitations though.  I'd be hard pressed to recommend putting this in a production environment.
If any one is more seriously thinking about it, there is another product that acts as a Proxie between the 3300 and the phone, giving the 7960 almost all the features a standard Mitel phone would have.    You can see more here: www.net-vitesse.com   Haven't used it but it looks promising.

I have not done this, but I have been asked to see if I could use some other cisco ip phones (not sure about the model) with a 3300. I am really hesitant becasue of the limitations I have read and I cant imagine the user experience. Especially if they have been using this cisco phone and now it does not do anything it used to do.

Just my $.02

I was able to make this work.  Mitel came out with a "howTo" a couple of weeks after my first attempt.   This phone is actually sitting on my desk and working.

It's a pretty "stupid" phone running SIP.   I wasn't able to make xfer work.   MWI is known not to work.
Basicly a dumb phone.
You can take calls, hold calls, make calls, etc.

webman:
Where do you find these Mitel How-To's?

ralph:
On MOL.   You need to be a dealer to get at it.
