5310 for a large conference room
« on: February 06, 2013, 11:21:06 AM »
I'm looking at replacing an old Polycom conference unit I have with a 5310 connected to a 5330. The 5310 is supposed  to good for rooms up to 20' x 30' and my conference room is a bit larger than that (about 20' x 40'). I was hoping there was a secondary mic that could be plugged into the 5310 or a way to run a second 5310 off the first but I haven't found anyone who has managed this.

Has anyone tried a 5310 in a room this large? Or are there other, better solutions I should be looking at to get good conference sound quality?

Thanks.

Have you looked at the UC360? I don't know what the room size recommendations are for it, but it is a pretty nice little device.

We just installed 5330's with the 5310 in our conference rooms back in November 2012.   My Executives hated the units!  The parties on the other end could not hear our executives.   Our Executive conference room is 15x25.  We had to replace them with Polycom IP 7000's.

I know I am a newbie to these forums, but I feel that Mitel dropped the ball on the design and execution of the 5310's.   They should redesign them. Sorry!

The issue on the 5310's is they are intended for a certain sized room however they get thrown in all kind of situations where I agree that do not work.

Thanks for all the responses.

I checked the UC360 specs and the maximum room size is 35'x35', so that just might do it.

The Polycom 7000 spec suggests a maximum 40'x40' but the ability to add an extra mic is really interesting. Also, the managers who would be using it are already familiar with the Polycom Soundstation Premier, so the learning curve won't be as painful as with the UC360:)

I guess I'll call around and see if I can get some demo units.

I also just wanted to note that I currently use a couple of the 5310s in smaller conference rooms (20'x15' - 6-8 people) and find that the sound quality is excellent. So in a smaller room, they really are a good solution.

Right they work fine in a room the size they were designed for. People seem to forget that.
