5215 phones not booting up
« on: October 08, 2012, 01:08:04 PM »
Hi All
Wonder if you could help me please.  ICP is a 3300.  I am having problems adding 5215 phones into my network.
Some (which have been used in the network before) get to DHCP Releasing 1 and then just hang.
Others (which haven't been used before) get to
DHCP: Discovery
Booting 04.04.00.10
and then just hang there.
Any ideas on what I can do to resolve this?
Many thanks
Alex

what options do you have in your DHCP scope?

Sorry Bob, you'll have to be patient with me.  I'm not absolutely sure how the scope has been set up.
In the Mitel 3300 administration, the DHCP server hasn't been enabled.  So I assume this is handled by the domain controller?
All I know is that we have several Procurve switches been set up with several VLANs (one obviously for voice)
We also have around 25 other Mitel 5215 phones in the network, which are working fine, so I don't think there is a DHCP problem - it would appear that this is working ok, and the problem I'm experiencing is down to these particular phones instead?
Hope this helps.
Alex

Did the 5215s have two models like the 5220s did? The normal and the dual mode? If my memory is correct I think the normal models didn't support discovery protocols. You may want to look at that. Check to see if the working 5215s have a different part number than the non-working ones.

Interestingly enough, the phones that I'm having problems with are the normal ones.  But there seem to be a mix of dual mode and normal ones on the network which are working ok.  The normal ones are supported by the 3300 though, right?

The normal ones should work. Are you using LLDP to put the phones on the VLAN? If so, you will have to build access ports for the normal phones as they will not know how to get there other wise.

You say that some of the phones have been used before, have you tried defaulting them to see if they may have some static values in them?

Pass to LLDP, I don't know, how would I find out?
Can you also tell me how to default the phones, as I'm unsure.
Sorry to sound so clueless, but I've never had this problem before.

what makes you so sure this is not a DHCP problem? Old phones like 5215's need old options in DHCP server to boot on newer versions of software. Once they have booted on the new version and upgraded their firmware they no longer need these options. Therefore I am wondering if you still have these old options in your DHCP server?

A long shot, but try holding down the star key whilst booting to clear the phones memeory.

Hi x-man
I have tried this already, but I'm pretty sure this just clears the PIN rather than defaulting the phone.
Thanks
Alex

Answer is I'm not absolutely sure.  I'm quite prepared to put in temporary static IP values if it gets me out of the woods to start off with.  Only thing is I'm not sure how to access the menu on phone boot up to put these in.

Hold the down arrow key on boot up to access the config menu from there you can set static info
