Same extension but different DDI's

I have a query about the best way to handle having two different ddi ranges but with the same last four digits.

We have two DDI ranges:
0141 331 xxxx
0207 901 xxxx

We have purchased a new range for the 0207 901 ddi, but the last four digits are the same as the last four digits on the other range. What is the best way to set this up on the Mitel system.

One idea was to have a DDI for external calls, but a completely different extension for internal calls (i.e. 0207 901 8001 but an extension of 101). Is this easy to do or are there better options?

Not gonna happen unless you have two seperate inbound trunk groups or the carrier is sending you more than 4 digits.

If the carrier is only sending you 4 digits, example: 1234, the system doesn't know what extn to send the call to.

If your carrier is sending you 5 or more digits then you can tell the difference between what extension to send it to.
In that case, you will need to put the digits the carrier is sending in the system speed call form and point it to the actual number.

I am guessing these are UK number ranges.
As what Ralph says if you are being sent 4 digits from the exchange on the same circuit with 2 ddi ranges then thats a problem.
However in my experience these days you get sent 6 digits so you would get 31xxxx and 01xxxx being sent, so that would not be a problem. Or you could ask your service provider to change the amount of digits being sent.
I wish the 3300 was more flexible with its incoming.....maybe one day

Thanks for all the responses...so i believe the carrier is sending 6 digits. So I guess I could have an intenal extension number of 6 digits to include 31?? Is that possible?

My problem is how internal people communicate as I would ideally like extensions to be the same as the last few digits of the ddi.

you need to use system speedcall to maunally translate a 6 digit DDI to a 4 digit ext number:

eg 311000 - actual number - 1000
     011000 - actual number - 7000

Need to make sure you have enough speedcalls to cover all your DDI's and more.

So speedcall is the way to go to get around the external calls coming in.

In terms of the internal dialling, is the only way is to give them a completely different extension? Can an internal externsion be any amount of digits?

For example, the ddi is 02079017012 but there is already a 7012 extension linked to ddi 01413317012. Can I set the extension as 17012, so internal users can call that number?

In you example the carrier would have to be sending you both 017012 & 17012.  You could then point them via speed calls to what ever extension you'd like.   So the answer is 'yes' but only if the carrier is sending you all 5 digits.
